Didn't say it was but looks more purposeful than LRs efforts.

Really! To me it looks like a wimpy half brother to the Evoque/DiscoverySport.

Looks far better than the Disco Sport and will have far superior build quality and use better materials.

Been there done it, the biggest waste of £40k

There is a huge market in the £20-30k price bracket, volume sales to be had, LR need to supply this end too. Part of the problem with the D4, D5 and RRS etc is that maintenance costs are scary so they wont make appealing buys once out of warranty. Leaves a lot of people buying elsewhere.

@CFB. Maintenance scary ???

On my D3 I had only an alternator failing at 260.000km's.. The last three year my dealer cost me regular maintenance only, not even tires, and I did around 60.000km's ...

We had a Smart '04 for 1½ years. Drove it for about 9000Km's. Spend € 3500,- keeping it going... Problem is, once you spend some money your tied too it, thinking it will be the last issue... NEVER by a Smart older then 3-4 years, SELL it before it reaches 7 years...

Then I bought a Fiesta. Nice little car. Spend around € 1500,- in extra maintenance on it, in 1½ year and 10.000km's ... We still have it, but another € 1500 is on the horizon...

So as long as you maintain it, do not let some idiot work on it, then nothing scary about a D3 ! Whistle

While I agree with you that they were insane to dump the market previously dominated by the Freelander 2 (and risk losing their next generation of upgrades), any car as expensive and sophisticated as a D4 or RRS we can reasonably expect to be expensive to fix. I would expect a BMW X5 or VW Towrag to be even more expensive when the time comes.

There's never going to be a time when a D4 or RRS can be guaranteed to be cheap to run. An extended warranty is something that most of us are going to budget for as one of the inevitable consequences of running a complex £50,000+ car into old age.

It seems to me the price doesn't matter anymore. So many cars are bought on PCP that the finance costs are what are important hence the world and his wife are running around in German saloons.
