New Expedition Parts - Snorkel, Roof Rack etc... |
|
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help a complete novice. I am about to take a Discovery 3 down to Morocco as I live there for most of the year. As I live down a very off road track and intend on travelling around the country I was thinking of modifying/adding a few extras.
The car has done approx 90,000 miles and is an 05 but in good condition. I was thinking that I need a snorkel, roof rack and underbody protection but was wondering what else?
Also on the things that I want I was wondering what is the best snorkel - Safari??
Does anyone know whether Devon 4x4 are selling the genuine G4 roof racks at the discounted rate as £820 seems very expensive.
What is the best underbody protection?
In fact if anyone can just guide me from the beginning that would be great - I live in the Midlands so I am very sure there are people around here but I just don't want to be ripped off as I know nothing.
thanks for your help in advance.

If you are wanting to deal with dust and not water crossings then the LR RAI maybe better than ther Safari snorkel. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Thanks for the advice. Is there a good place to be buying parts like this at a discount to the Retail price of LR as i don't really need them new and £300+ is alot especially when I am looking for a expo rack, ladder, and a couple of other extras.
thanks

If you're going to pay £800 for a rack you can have mine
Seriously, don't - you can find them on ebay, or on here second hand, but they're quite rare. Normally below £500 (read £350-400 2nd hand), or new from Yeovil. Front Runner racks are also very good (probably better than the LR rack), but a tad more expensive. 10forcash does Front Runner stuff, and can fit anything you care to imagine
I prefer the LR Raised Air Intake to the Safari Snorkel, but they both do the job. Again ebay/here for second hand, Nick at Yeovil for new.
Underbody kit is Rasta/Mantec or Uncle Ray (a member here).
Personally, I'd speak to 10forcash - he can sort out buying the kit and fit it if required. If it's new LR stuff he'll get it from Yeovil anyway He also has personal Morocco/Tunisia experiance. Disco 5 HSE Lux

James, consider what you want to carry on the rack before choosing. there is limited length 'within' the LR expo rack.
My thoughts would then turn to tyres, your choice here will be a difficult compromise, depending on your wheel size.
Then I'd be looking into where to store beer & how to power the fridge ... Long succession of Disco's since 2001...
SIII Lightweight - neglected & rusting. Bulkhead, A panels, vent panel & outriggers now disintegrated - Next years project!
