New Engine reqd. 50k miles & 2 years old

Hi, had a little weird vibration 4 days ago from my 2 year old D4.

Been told its the Crankshaft/Bearings and i need a new engine.

Is this a major problem, i thought it was more on the 2.7 engines with high mileage.

Also been told that it will take 4-8 weeks to repair... Really??

Been given a Mitsubishi L200 Pick up as a replacement FFS.

Anyone else been down this route in a 2016 D4?

Cheers

Phil

Sorry to hear that. Sad

My 16 plate D4 has just clocked up 45k miles.

Surely you're entitled to a LR vehicle as a replacement under the LRA scheme. It's still covered by the original warranty.

Depends on your perspective. Some will say it’s a small proportion (8% ISTR) so basically all is well and to be expected. Basically get over it and go away. Of course if you’re part of that 8% and not in warranty you’re stuffed financially due to an acknowledged design fault that JLR won’t do anything about or compensate for. Cartainly in my last business if we had that level of failure we’d have been put out of business but obviously big boys play by different rules.

I don’t think there is any difference in the crank between the D4 & D5, will be interesting to see if/when these start snapping like twiglets on the D5.

Apparently they are trying to get me a LR vehicle but none available at the moment & I'm 9th on the waiting list.

The LR Assistance tech that came out said it was a known problem but not at a common problem.

Usually fail 30-60k.

Problem was the crank being twisted slightly on installation moving/blocking oil way alignment.

On Ford/Citroen build units??

Not sure how much to believe really.

Can’t afford a TDV8 new and I don’t think I want a second hand LR, the Porsche warranty looks very comprehensive and seem to be mechanically bulletproof, but I’ve not driven one. The new Touareg is a 3.0 on air and is a good price. LR just don’t seem to make a car for me anymore.

The crank shaft should not break on any car at any mileage.

But things do break. And I think people can generally accept that.

The issue here is the cost to sort this issue. LR should be ashamed of themselves. And if it’s such a small number as some claim, they why don’t they just replace them FOC - As a massive company and considering they say it’s such a tidy amount, it won’t make any difference to them!!

But LR branded extended warranty won’t cover it as it’s a design fault.

Why 4/8 weeks, the new engines can normally be sourced from LR same week, then just swap over.
When my D4 had a replacment engine for other reasons it was all done and dusted in under 10 days

It’s worth remembering that it’s an engine supplied and built by Ford and LR will have little control over availability of additional units at short notice. Depending on their own production schedules, Ford may be able to turn around additional engines in a couple of weeks, or a couple of months.

Considering that Ford are loosing the contract to supply, I don’t imagine that they’re going to put themselves out and I don’t imagine that they are any better at dealing with warranty claims with LR than they are with any hapless private buyers of Ford vehicles either!

I imagine that LR are looking forward to the day when everything comes out of their own plant in Wolverhampton! Thumbs Up

^ no, JLR took over the production of these engines from Ford around 2012, and this is the same time when they claimed that they had fixed the crank issue.

which we all know is BS Evil or Very Mad

That’s strange, as my SDV8 is built at Ford’s factory at Chihuahua and the V6 diesels are built at Ford’s plant in Dagenham...
