New engine needed? Lucky escape

I was reversing my D3 into the front drive at my daughter's house when my wife (front seat passenger) noticed a trail of oil on the road in front of us; it went back about 50 yards down the road. Dipstick showed no oil at all but the red oil warning light had not yet come on.
Investigation produced a front crankshaft oil seal which had popped out. Incredibly lucky that this happened 50 yards from the end of the journey and not on the M25 where I had been 10 minutes before!

As a point of interest, have you had a replacement oil pump recently? 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Could be that the new seal wasn't fitted correctly. There was a problem a little while ago with Bearmach oil pumps where the seal popped out after a while. Bearmach pump withdrawn from sale, was maybe something to do with the machining of the oil seal recess.
I had this problem and fitted a new Citroen pump (same as LR but half the price) supplied by Disco Mikey.
I now have two duff oil pumps awaiting a trip to scrap !
However, at least you found the problem before having to look for a new engine. Thumbs Up 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE
