New Engine / 7 year 112K service

quick question, its a while away yet, but wondered if anyone knows the answer

My recently acquired D4, from main dealer approved used - just fitted with new engine by the dealer as last owner had crank failure.

Car is 5 years old, but engine only about 2 months old.

I want to maintain full LR service history, so in 2 years time, what are my local LR dealer likely to say when the timing belt service is due?

I cannot see the point in changing those belts, incurring a load of cost on that service, when the belts will only be 2 years and probably 25-30K miles old.

My local dealer is not the dealer that did the engine change by the way.

Anyone experienced this?

Have you got any documentation stating that a new engine was fitted at such and such date / mileage ?

I would say the belts have been changed so the 7 years on that specific item starts from 0 again, similar to if you are a high mileage driver, the belts get done at more regular intervals than 7 years

I have an internal invoice from the dealer, showing all the parts etc fitted (including the engine), but nothing listing the work.

If you have the parts lists (internal invoice) and both the timing and HPFP belt are on the said list then you have your proof Thumbs Up

Knowing they are only 2 years old I would say you have a good traceable history.

would the belts not be part of the new engine assembly?

The engine is shown as X LLR054388 on the list. I can't see belts as separate items.

The front belt is visible and does look new to me.

Is it even feasible that they would have not fitted new belts when replacing an engine which had failed with broken crank?

Johnny the belt you can see is the aux belt and not the front cam belt, you need to remove the cover to see the front cam belt.

It should have had all newbelts when the engine was changed so its not due for a few years nows or 112k miles.

Flack Thumbs Up

thanks mate, I have emailed the supplying dealer anyway, I would like it in writing from them - my concern is maintaining FSH, and I dont want to be 2 years into ownership and have another dealer tell me I need the major belt service when its only 2 years old - hopefully they will be able to confirm this.

Belts!

My D3 is 14 years old and covered 130,000 miles, never done my belts yet.......

........2 new engines in stead! Both came with new belt lol.

My engine is brand new, so service schedule applied to engine age, and any body parts, down to age of car....gearbox etc etc.

thanks for all the replies, quick question: is the rear HPFP belt generally supplied fitted as part of a new engine in the same way the main cam belt is?

A new engine, supplied by JLR comes with a front belt already fitted

It does not come with a new HPFP belt, and should have had a new one fitted when the engine was replaced.
If you have any documentation of parts used, the belt number is LR016656

Thumbs Up

thanks a lot Mikey, great to have a trustworthy opinion.

My JLR paperwork does have the part number "LLR016656 - KIT - INJ PUMP B"

I am guessing (and hoping) this includes that belt?

EDIT - indeed googled that part number and it is the belt and tensioner kit. Good news, means I have proof the engine is fitted with new belts. Might save me a few £ in the future.

Thanks everyone who contributed, this forum continues to be fantastic.

One way of changing the belts I suppose. Sounds a tad expensive Big Cry
