New Disco3 (MY 08/5) radio volume knob doesn't seem to work

Hello all,

I bought my new Disco3 (HSE with Logic 7 audio) two months ago, and on delivery the audio system didn't give any sound. The tuner seems to work (locks frequencies and RDS info), I can load CD's and play them, I can even hook up my Bluetooth phone, download the address book and place a call! But all in utter silence.

When I place a phone call through the system the microphone works (the receiver hears my voice), but no sound on my side.

Another thing I noticed right away is that no setting, that is controlled by the volume knob (fader, balance etc.), reacts to the turning of this knob.

Because I am living on St. Maarten, a small island in the Caribbean with no Landrover dealer, I contacted my dealer in the Netherlands. After doing some resets, checking fuses etc., we came to the conclusion that the head unit had to be the culprit.

When I was in Holland for a vacation last month the dealer supplied a new head unit that I took with me to St. Maarten. Because I am writing this message, you already guessed that replacing the unit didn't make any difference.

Not having the option to visit a dealer, I scanned the internet for clues for what to do next. I also read through the different topics of the forum, but have not found a similar situation so far.

I there anyone that can help please?[b]
 Take care,

Ewan Boonstra.

Can you adjust it using the wheel-mounted controls?

Also, it could be that the amplifier fuse has blown (fuse 42 in the glovebox, rated at 30 Amp) ...

Hi Mick,

No, the steering wheel controls for the volume aren't working either (source change does). I checked fuse 42 and replaced it, even though it looked OK.

The dealer assured me that the radio was working before they shipped the car over. Thinking about the option that the change in location of the car might cause some systems to malfunction, and because I am outside the range of the navigation DVD, I took the DVD out this morning... One never knows.

No change in the situation though.

Thanks for bearing with me!
 Take care,

One of the tell-tale signs would be to see if the "Volume Adjust +/-xx" display comes up on the radio display for a couple of seconds while adjusting it.

This should appear either using the volume knob or the steering wheel controls, if not, that would suggest a faulty radio head unit, if it does then it's further down the line, amp supply fuse or relay as suggested before or audio data link to the amp perhaps?

Hi,

I am still working on the issue. The adjust screen is showing, but does not react to the turning of the knob (in every mode). After my last post the radio started to operate intermittently. This summer i took a new radio unit from Holland to St. Maarten. But this didn't solve the problem. Because the display showed a phone connected or disconnected message when the radio started or stopped working we figured that the phone module might be the culprit.

So my dealer configured a new phone unit on a disco with a close VIN nr. and send it to St. Maarten. This didn't solve the problem either. But the message was different, indicating that the system doesn't recognize the new phone unit. To solve this the module has to be reconfigured in my Disco here on St. Maarten. Up till today I didn't find the time to do this.

I checked ll the fuses, relays and connections several times.

I will keep you posted when I have solved the problem.

Kind regards,

Ewan.

Ewan ..might sound daft but have you tryed disconnecting the battery ?

Other than that if one of the most units are faulty ..phone , amp , radio , TMC , tv ...then you will loose sound on everything as there all linked together . You could disconnect each unit in turn and connect the most connectors this would then eliminate the problem module . (basically take out each unit in turn from the most ring )

The phone is most likely to be the faulty one ..

Hi Wiggs,

I di disconnect the battery several times during the whole process (resetting). Didn't work either. I will try reconfiguring the phone unit in January. Can I get back to you when this doesn't solve the problem?

Kind regards,

Ewan.

Had this problem with my HSE, does the sat nav work properly? As mine just stayed on the landrover screen! The dealer located the problem to a unit in the back of the car, at the time I thought it was one the rear audio controls that was at fault, but as wiggs has pointed out the tmc and phone unit is also located in rear panel of the car.

Hope you get it resolved.

Lee
