New Disco Clone

Tomorrow I pick up my new Disco clone, a Ford Explorer.

It is a bit like picking up your first new car when you were young as it will be a new driving experience. Someone has put the steering wheel on the wrong side and my arms get tired trying to reach across to it Shocked

All those years of driving experience count for nothing and I have to sit both computer and driving test to get my USA licence.
Will post some photos so you can see the D3 DNA.

Meanwhile off to study the road rules, not that they mean much over here apparently. At least unlike Singapore they do stay in their designated lanes and dont try to line the middle of the vehicle up with the lane markings Laughing

Always found the traffic lights strung up above normal line of vision to be the biggest challenge over there.

Even at level crossings they have that. Nearly got cleaned up by a freight train in Texas because I simply did not see the warning lights Shocked

Had a Ford Explorer for a few weeks in the USA last year.

Very nice car indeed for the USA, suits the roads and things well. We changed to a Chevvy Tahoe which I personally much preferred as the interior was better laid out, but as drivers cars they were exactly the same.

Just like all American "SUV's" they feel the same, look pretty much the same, you can only really pick them on which dashboard button layout you like best.

Really does look like one company has pinched the others design.

But probably just a coincidence also that the new Fiesta/Mondeo has a grill that looks like an Aston Martin

Must be a real economical way of "designing" new models.

Confused

The Sat Nav is pretty ordinary. On one trip it took us for an hours detour and we ended 15 miles up the road from where we turned off.
Other than the navigation the vehicle went very well. The 4wd came in handy for the snow last winter although I found the steering to be light and not much feedback.
I traded my Explorer last March and picked up a new XF AWD Jag. I know which vehicle I prefer to drive. Also had the pleasure of driving the F-Typr R on the track recently. Now there is a car. Had it up to 135mph and still seemed to want to go faster. Did a hot lap with an instructor and we got to 155mph. Cant imagine driving on the road and not ending up with many speeding tickets Shocked
