Fuel burning heater spends far too long on, even with temp 6+ outside, probably needs a tweak.

It is normal for it to be running at these temps.

Thumbs Up

I do find it tends to be on a lot more than the D3 version though

I'm not so sure - I went to near Weybridge yesterday from the middle and mine ran from startup for about an hour (Is there a timer that turns it off after an hour as nothing changed otherwise.) And that was despite being on the M40 at about 70.

You're right Dave T; it is on a lot more than the D3's ever was - only when the weather got really nippy did I even realise that my D3 actually had one! And it wasn't because of the noise in the cabin that we spotted it - it was the exhaust coming from under the engine that gave it away - the D4's seems a lot noisier or not as well damped. Anyway, a small detail in an otherwise superb package.

Thanks for all the comments everyone!

So, what are we supposed call a Disco 4 now they've gone and dropped the "4". A Disco 5? <blank>? Pause? Awkward silence?.....

Jupiter 8 - Good Point
- the Freelander 2 (FL2) has morphed or being brand engineered into the Disco Sport...so LR lose any bad reputation/s on other markets created with FL1 or FL2 - OK
before the EVOKE was spawned from the FL2 it was dubbed the "Baby" Range Rover...maybe Victoria hand a hand in giving "Baby" a real name..shes had a few (babies that is) so knows the form.

- The REAL Disco (aka Disco 3 / Disco 4) now a DISCOVERY " " maybe confused with the "NEW" DISCOVERY said to be here maybe the end of this year (2015) if that isnt given some other name to differentiate it:

Discovery "not a sport"

Discovery "the real one"....

Discovery "five".......this wont happen as it dates cars & can ruin residuals...but naturally follows on & maybe whats lots of (us) will call it anyway - why not the FIVE

Discovery "Mk 5 / Mk V"..as per VW golf numerology...they all are & look like golfs...they all have a creation date & a "Mk"....totally logical...in Germany & everwhere else

Discovery "New One"..which only lasts till its changed ...you can bet your boots it will be in some subtle way that forces "new one" owners to devise ways of turning or transmogrifying the "old" "New One" to fool / dupe / cod themselves & maybe some niave others otherwise...what will be changed - Raer lights / front lights / some bits of trim bling or the model features value engineered some way so for the same dosh you get less.

Discovery + "some other name"....well here we go it could be Discovery Grand, (done before by Suzuki) Discovery Limited, done before by Jeep, Discovery Gaydon, ? Discovery TaTa (maybe will be in some markets) ...maybe we ought to have a competition or a vote to give our views for J/LR...

but a Real Discovery it will have to be to follow on from the original "Discovery" "Discovery 2", "Discovery 3" & would you believe it "Discovery 4":
Puposefull - fail on this one & there is no point...doomsville
Affordable - it wont be judging by prices of the Sport.we can all hope
Realistic - depends on the criteria you compare it to others with...currently little compares
Reliable - we can at least ask & hope
Economical - should be with Aluminium architecture & maybe new engines / options

We all have to wait & see.....[/b]
Maybe just maybe the DISCOVERY (as per above) will have a greater price differentiation with basic models at sort of realistic prices..blinged up the eyballs ones at stratospheric amounts.
Lots will hang on with what they have now - Disco 3 & 4s will become coveted collectors items..like lots of Jaguar models
 BREXIT - done properly.
Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.
Founder: Dipsticks-R-Us Inc
D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

As the unit starts at a higher temp than on the D3 it does run more often. Once started as an aux heater it runs just like the D3 version but owners do notice it more because it is considerably louder than the D3 FBH. Almost all the extra noise is due to the deletion of the intake silencer - some have gone as far as fitting a D3 silencer to the unit to reduce the jet fighter effect. I quite like the noise.
