I done my rear lights with a can of spray tint from halfords.
Cant remember the price but £12 I think. One can done both lights. Beauty is you can keep adding more coats of paint until you have them as dark as you like...

Sorry don't mean to laugh at you, but I know what you mean.
Okay, 1st step, if you have a heated garage put the car in and leave it for a few hours to take the chill off, if not take the rear lights out and take them indoors and let them get warm, put them near the radiator or get the wife's hair dryer and warm them up.
2nd step is to cut the tint to the right size, you need to have some over the edges, a few cm will do nicely when you lay it on top pull it tight to get it all the way over, then roll out the tint and get it flat, might be best to do this a few days before under a heavy book.
3rd step, get a spray bottle with water and a very small amount of washing liquid mixed in, basically the water needs to be a bit slippery. With the lights warm spray them with the water, put plenty on then take the film and spray the side you are going to lay onto the light, does not need as much water but just a fine film.
4th step is lay it on the light and move it around till you have it covering the whole light with the excess film over the flat edge, e.g using the L/H light the flat part at the very back, as the left side slopes at an angle, hold it down and using a rubber block smooth the bubbles out from the center top to bottom in small pushing motions, don't try to do it all in one go, then start to work the left side of the light down in the same way, if you are getting bubbles you can't get out you can lift it spray a bit more water and lay it down and carry on, if the tint is hard you can use a hair dryer and heat it up to make it a bit more flexible to help smooth it out.
This is what I mean by the rubber block.
5th step is the edges, basically warm them up and then spray them with the water and use your fingers to wrap it around the best possible, you will never get it perfect inside but as long as it curls around it wont be seen when the light is in and trim the excess of just to tidy it up if its too much.
You will find you might see traces of water under the tint, this will disappear in a few days and if you have some very small bubbles heat them up with the hairdryer and push on them with your finger and they will go as well.
I had quite a few after I did mine, but as I did it in the summer and we had 30 odd degrees, i just left the car out and it just shrunk the tint to the light.
Hope this explains the process for you.

Many thanks battrooper, True, the problem I had is I took the car back to the same LR dealer for its MOT and over here they are a bit picky, and the service guy was new and did not know me like the old guy did, he took exception to the tint, sufficed to say I had a bit of an argument with him in the car park, so what I did is just ripped it all of in front of him and said you happy now, with the spray on stuff if you get an unreasonable copper who causes a problem you can't get it of that quickly, I just personally dont like the spray cans, also getting the same amount on both sides is not easy, but yes it is easier , thats true.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

Hi all
Had itchy fingers the other day and added a few more bits and bobs.
Satin Trim, smoked side repeaters and D4 style black lights. Very pleased.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
