New D3 & now some strange noise
Hi,
I have not even had the opportunity to introduce myself and my newly acquired D3, bought two weeks ago - a 2009 tdv6 HSE and here is my first mechanical question.
Since picking it up from the stealer i have noticed that when starting the vehicle, I hear this mechanical sound before the engine actually fires - almost like a metal against metal sound (difficult to explain). I have spoken to the stealer about it who reckons it is the suspension sorting itself out????
Any ideas before i take it back? I am currently sitting in Uganda and it will be about a week still before i can take it backt othe stealer.
I'll upload some pics if i can figure out how to
thnx

Hi, mine does the same, apparently quite normal to make the tappet noise on startup for about 3 seconds, valves aligning themeselves.

Finally got a chance to take the Disco back to the stealer this morning.
They claim it is the diff motor and seeing as they are not a LR dealer, have booked it in at LR for next week to get sorted.

Diff Motor? Do they mean the electric Diff Lock? The diff itself does not move until you drive.
At least they are willing to have LR have a look, the LR mechanics normally know what everything is supposed to sound like, ask LR to take the disco for a spin around the block with you present and they will tell you if sounds are not normal disco sounds.
They put the disco onto vehicle lift and drive nice and fast while wheels are hanging free and then listen for diff gearbox problems while standing under.
