If it isn't too 'agricultural' for you, I'd suggest a full-on Defender 110 (XS), as I can imagine it would fulfill your criteria with great ease.

I'd Love one of those BUT with no airbags or other modern safety features don't think I'd like to have the missus carting 4 kiddes around in one.
So I'm thinking XC90 or Q7 - unless I can get a GL cheaply 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

XC90 is a good car, just not an off roader. If you're not looking for it to go into the wilderness then go for it It's the perfect family 4x4. 2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

Hi
I don't understand how the XC90 would be better than the D3. We tried one for the weekend before buying the D3 and the rear seats are so small that we wrote it off the second we saw the D3.
We have 4 children, 4 years, 3 years, 2 years and a 10 month old baby.
3 accross the middle all in car seats. The eldest sits in the rear getting in via folding the seat down behind the driver. Bearing in mine that the baby's will be in the type of seat you take out of the car as opposed to a fixed seat which comes into play at around 10 months old. By then your eldest will be 6ish and can seat in the front with the airbag switched off on a booster. If you all go out then we put up the one boot seat and put the eldest boy's booster on it and I sit behind the wife always keeping the middle seat behind the driver free to fold.
We put the push chair in the boot and its a double buggy type and it fits fine. Chances of us doing that in a XC90 are 0. 2006 TDV6 S Auto, Buckingham Blue, for the wife and kids.

I have a double mountain buggy for sale now - surplus to requirements as kids have outgrown buggies. about 3 years old or so. If interested pm me - sorry for the blatant plug.
On topic though , my sister has 4 kids and finally gave in and bought a VW caravelle as there were so many arguments about being cramped in a mpv thing as the older one hit 14 and the youngest is 6. No fun as a car though but great as a vehicle for a family.
