Sorry but at the motor show last week (Geneva) I was told that the new Mitsu was a true 7 seater, please try to get in the back before you choose. I asked my 10 year old to sit in the back of the Outlander and she said it was v. small, she's used to the D3 so no big surprise. Also I wasn't convinced about the mpg, I reckon that you'll have your toe down on the floor to get anywhere so the claimed 40mpg is more like 35mpg (still good though). I liked the styling inside but again found it small vs D3.
When I think how we use our D3, If we had the Outlander then I need a permanent roof box for extra space.
Outlander: Nice but no cigar. Mrs Jones ? We've come for your Liver

I have always wanted a Disco and my heart is saying D3 but my head Mitsubishi.
A car should always be bought using the heart!
If you use your head then your heart's not in it! Back in the game!

The photo at the bottom of TFC's post is not of the driver but of someone in the 2nd row of seats (it does look like he is driving).
Yes the quality is not as good and yes it is a bit noisey and yes I also doubt the 40 mpg and I agree that an MPV would suit but we have done the MPV thing and wanted to try something else.
Maybe its a pretend D3?
I'm all at sea over this

I dont need to go offroad but I need 7 seats.
A a 7 seater the disco is excellent, but suffers from the usual problem of very little boot when all 7 seats are in place - so 7 seats on the school run is fine, 7 seats for holiday isn't.
If you are using 7 seats regularly and need boot space aswell you might be better looking at an MPV like the Grand Espace...particularly as you don't need the off-road capability.

Or if you need 7 seats and the extra space only occasionally then a D3 and a roofbox is much better than any MPV 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Conversation...
Twincam: I've just bought a new car
TC Friends: Oh cool, what did you choose after your extensive research
Twincam: I bought A mitsubishi Outlander for it's 7 seat capability.....
TC Friends: ................ (tumbleweed.....)
TC Friends: Oh really TC, that's great...... What's an Outlander.................?
I've had my Disco3 precisely 25 days. Used all 7 seats, Adults & Children) carried a large sideboard (not at the same time obviously) and spent 25 minutes (standing in the rain) trying to end a conversation with a neighbour about how jealous he was that he wasn't able to upgrade his D2 yet.......
Not all Disco owners are splashed with cash, I've bought mine with the intention of keeping for a fair while & then handing it over to the missus once all the finance is paid off. I know it will depreciate (% wise will be less depreciation than the Mitsi though) , but knowing that my company are paying my cash allowance which pays for me to be able to have a car that will fit pretty much ticks all of my requirements boxes (including carrying 7 Adults) except for MPG, which in my opinion is an acceptable cost. From a pure Mileage perspective, it COSTS me about 4p/mile everytime I use the car for business. But that's the cost of a PermaGrin my friend.
I've tried finding the Mitsubishi Outlander forum with no luck.......... At least with this site, you have over 2,000 people with knowledge about the car, the problems and how to fix/find/opinions on anything Disco. Worth the longer term financial commitment in my view.
Resale will also be so much easier with a Disco when you come to sell it (to get the Disco4 in a few years time... )
Of course, if it means you'll lose your house then don't buy it! Bodsys Brake Bible
