New 285/60R18 25mm/30mm spacers. Width issue 10" vs 11& |
|
Mathematic is not my strong side sometimes.
Got my 285/60R18 tires home. Also got my spacers from H&R 25 and 30 mm.
Anyway looked at my old tires vs new (not fitted yet) which measures:
255/60R18 285/60R18
Diameter. 30,05. 31,46
Width. 10,04 11,22
Height shouldnt be a problem but with 25 mm and 30 mm, do they fit without the tire sticking out to much.
It's a bit of width difference but I want the spacers and 20mm lift to get better handling/center of mass better. Got a bit scared because i haven't measured. I know that the tires fit and spacers fit but not the combo? Have anyone tried this?
The MOT here in Sweden often don't care about oversized tires (if they are not to big) but are more interested if the tires sticks out of the wheelhouse/fender.
So have anyone oversized with wider tires and spacers?

255/55/19 are inside the arches with +30mm spacers at the front. Your tyres are 30mm wider overall, so +15mm either side of the centre line, and your hub spacers are 25mm front, -5mm from what I have previously fitted.
Put another way, your new tyres and spacers will be +40mm further out then your existing sidewall.
You should be OK, but it's marginal. Watch your wheel arch liners at full articulation though..... I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Thanks!
The reason for me fitting spacers are:
Less rubbing cause rims further away wheel hub and also from arch liners. Rubbing is often three o clock and i hope to nit getting any with this solution not three o clock or nine o clock. I really hope this will fix it.
Better handling with wider track and lower center of mass.
I Bern looking at the tires and it's really difficult to say how much it will stick out. Tried to measure but so hard. Marginal is ok 10 mm out i bad so i hope it will be ok.

There's a few guys here in OZ running 285/60 18 that don't seem to have too much trouble.
I'm trying to decide which way to go with new tyres myself.
A really handy tool has been made up by a company over here called Green Oval Eperience, they have a spreadsheet with all the different tyres that'll fit a disco.
I'd put up the link but I'm a little challenged with how to work this forum.....

Hi tmpolice, a while ago I know but how did you get on with the 285 60 18 and spacers? Any issues?
Thanks
