New to me 2007 Discovery 3 HSE
I picked up my 2007 Discovery 3 HSE yesterday after owning a 2002 BMW 525d series for 6 years. Loved the car but 3 growing children meant a bigger 7 seater was always on the cards. My middle boy is on the ASD spectrum and has started to feel really car sick and by chance we borrowed a Disco for the weekend and he loved the light airy back seats so he has taken residence in seat 6 and is very happy.
The timing could not have been better with the poor weather over the last few days and I'm loving the lofty driving position and fully loaded spec.
I have some questions already having spent a few hours in the car today
Temp needle did not get to the middle - it was -5C but I was in London traffic for almost 2 hours
How do you stream audio through the bluetooth?
My maps on the Sat Nav are awful - are there updates available?
I'm keen on buying side steps and Disco 4 rear lights? Any recommendations on suppliers?
Thanks all and looking forward to getting some pics us over the next few days

Hi
Temp needle will probably be that the Fuel Burning Heater (fbh) probably is locked out search on the site and you will find how to clear the errors that are probably stopping it working. The engine runs cool so this is what supplements the heat output.
Bluetooth is only used for calls on this car and can’t be used for streaming- you can add in a device to the IPod connection kit if your car has it or tap a connector into the Aux port to stream through that - I just use a Layen IPod Bluetooth connector, there are some that can use the audio controls on the steering wheel
Maps can be updated and there are some that can be ordered online much cheaper than the last Land Rover update
SIdesteps and rear lights are often advertised used on here or try some of the sponsors listed as they are normally cheaper than other Genuine parts
Hope you enjoy the car!Must stop buying shiny toys....

Audio streaming doesn’t work over Bluetooth until D4 and MY12 (or MY13?).
The maps will continue to be awful, the graphics don’t change. LR stopped updates around 2011...2012 I think. The update disk price is also prohibitive. Third party resellers on the internet tend to sell “backups” and imply you should already have the original. Not many do so the legality is perhaps a bit iffy. My suggestion is to have he 4x4 info screen on the display and use google maps or Waze on your mobile phone. Get a nice cell phone holder like the ones from Brodit.
Not sure about the temperature needle. Here we put a piece of cardboard behind the grille or replace it with one that looks like it is perforated but has a plastic back. Reasonably sure that’s for colder climates than -5.
Rear lights can be found here on the sales forums every now and then, some forum sponsors might also have them available.

Thanks chaps.
Disappointing that the car does not stream over Bluetooth since they went to the effort of putting call connectivity in!
I thought that the temp might be a thermostat but will search for the fbh as a first port of call!
Have already scoured the classifieds but no luck yet

Car has done 154k - what should I be looking to get done. Has clearly been very well looked after but need this to last 4-5 years!

As long as the main issues have been covered already -
Servicing
Cam belt has been changed as well as hpfp belt
Oil pump changed (there is a weakness in the casting design on that model year)
Transmission flushed or oil changed
Diffs and transfer box oils changed
Then it’s mainly just regular servicing and keeping the rigid brake lines free of corrosion, anti roll bar bushes, and suspension bushes etcMust stop buying shiny toys....
Rather than spending money blinging it up, I would invest in an IID BT tool and get someone who really knows these vehicles to give it a once over.
Service bills on cars that have not been maintained properly can be eye watering, so get the basics done and she might look after you and last the 4/5 years.. ------------------------------

That's a fair point. Any recommended specialists in London?

If you're around South London then Geoff, a member/sponsor on this forum is worth visiting out near Sevenoaks. As I recall from my time living in Kent he was easy to get to via the M20/M26 and it's around that M25/M23/M20 triangle area. He'll tell you where he is.
I used various indpendent and even LR garages who supposedly knew these cars, but for sheer efficacy no one gets close to Geoff or Disco_Mikey if you're in Scotland as I now am. I'm sure the same can be said for the other guys offering these services on this forum who cover the whole country between them.
This has been an invaluable forum to me, owning a similar age high mileage D3 like you. These guys personify this forum and if you can make the effort you will be glad you did.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

Does the previous owner not have the tow bar keys then?
If the inspection doesn't throw up any major items and you still have the cash I can recommend side steps. It was the first upgrade I did and they do make boarding easier. Some don't like the fact their trousers can catch the dirt from them when getting out, but I don't notice.VR6 > 330D Touring > D3 HSE > !?XC90?!

No unfortunately he does not.
I'll need side steps for the kids as they can't get in by themselves at the moment!
