Need help: MATZKER Handling KIT and Remaps |
|
Hi,
I'm new to this forum.
I am waiting for my new TDV6 SE D3, and have a few questions:
I read the post on Matzker height control and power kits. The handling kit is pretty appealing to me (but costly). Has anyone got any of these? What is the companys reputation (for the price it must be excellent )
Another question regards remaps.
As a very versatile vehicle the D3 is, I am going to use it for daily use, regular caravan and trailer towing, as well as trips to Morroco.
While I welcome the extra torque & power when I tow, I don´t really need it when I go to Morroco, where Diesel is not alway good. That said I would like to ask if the TC or JE remaps available can be 'turned off', and if they can inadvertently be 'unprogramed' or 'overwritten' in a dealer SW upgrade.
What are the advantages of having a remap comparing to the 'piggy-back' hardware solution Matzker offers that can be turned on and off?
JC.

Hello and Welcome for your first post (If I am not mistaken...),
Sorry that I cannot answer all your questions but one...
Matzker has long been on the scene of "customizing" Land Rover Products... Think of him as you would of AMG and Mercedes... The relation is not THAT close, but Matzker is well known for some large scale modification on LR before like LR 110. One of my friend has one 110 "made in Matzker" and swears by it...
Thus, I would consider seriously what he is doing...
The only drawbacks is that the price of mechanics in Germany is quite expensive ! That explains the prices, probably... Georgia On My Mind...

There are many companies who have experience will 'old' landrovers but I would take time and care when deciding who to use for your 'new' TDV6 Money talks.Sex sells.Mud sticks.Time flys. happens.People talk.Impressions last!

Will a LR Serviçe Upgrade 'overwrite' TC or JE remaps? |
|
Hi,
Thanks for the help.
Gurvan, I will be visiting Paris soon. I and my wife love that city...
From your answer I understand why things as expensive.
From the feedbk I got from Marco and LRTuning I will have to sleep on the matter. On one hand, the mods I put on my D3 must be reliable and tested (usualy the most expensive), on the other hand they do seem expensive, and I confirm, They did not reply to my mail (maybe because it was in English...or maybe they are closed for vacation...I don´t know).
Do you guys know anyone that can help me with the remap question?
JC.

I've sent them (Matzker) two emails in the last 3 days and both have been answered within 18 hrs - maybe they were closed when you tried?

Hi Gordon,
Thanks for the Feedback.
I sent mine 4 August to ' lr@matzker.de'.
Did you send yours to the same address? In English?
Or maybe it´s because they are closed on holidays as you sugested!!
If you buy anything please keep me posted...

Yup, I sent to the same address, in English, asking if there were any dealers in Australia (no) and for a brief description (in English) of the system's functionality.
I'm not too keen on sending that amount of money for a system I haven't personally used or seen in action, but if I change my mind and buy something, I'll keep you informed!
Cheers,

Well...
Xplore, let me just say that if you are around and myself too, at the same moment, when you come to Paris, we might meet...
The only thing is that right now, I am only in Paris for next week or so before being back for some work in Georgia...
Anyway, going back to Matzker, my feeling is that his stuff is expensive for sure. Everybody agrees on that ! But, in the past, on other vehicles, it has been proven as, at least, "quite good" ! Now, the question is : is that worth the amount of money I am going to spend on this ?
For myself, the answer, right now, is clearly no... The limits of my DIII are probably beyond mine ! So that is good enough for me... Next summer, I plan on doing some off-roading in Iceland (See other thread...), when I am back, I will probably think otherwise. But not right now.
Your asnwer to that question : is it worth it, will probably be yours only and depends on what you are looking for and the troubles you are ready to go to... Georgia On My Mind...

My main concern is to get something reliable (which it seems to be), and not 'overwritable' by LR service updates (which it also seems do be...)
So ultimately, its a cash-flow problem
If everything goes according to plans I will only be in Paris in the first week of September, so unfortunately we will have to meet some other time...
In Iceland maybe?
Thanks,
JC

Maybe in Iceland... That seems to be a popular DIII spot those days... Georgia On My Mind...

I am driving about 1 month with the handling kit and the speed unlimiter from Matzker and the handling is perfect. Topspeed now on the GPS is 205 kmh. The car is also chipped by TurboChip.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the info.
Did you install the kit yourself, have it done locally or went to Matzker?
What is your opinion on the product quality ?
I Think the TC remap would be good, as you guys have done an excellent job in testing it, but for me it has 3 major problems:
1. I can’t have it done locally in Portugal (or Spain for that matter).
2. It can’t be turned off, so I can't guarantee maximum protection when in expedition in places where diesel quality is bad.
3. Even if I went somewhere to get the job done, a service upgrade will eventually 'untune' my D3.

I installed it myself the handling kit is about 1,5 hours of work. You have to put the handling box under the left side of the dashboard and attach it between the wires of the suspension.
The unlimiter is put behind the battery en between some wires from the ecu. It takes about 2 hours.
The manuels which come with the kits are very good. Read them good!!
When i ordered the kits they were send to me in about a week.
Untill now it works very good. No Faults on the dasch nothing.
