Nearside front strut - oil misting?

Hi all, what do you think? Oil misting from the strut?

Hi mate

Looks like the strut seals have failed , also can’t think of anything that’s near which could cause that

Wonder if as the strut is compressed , ie going over speed bumps etc it then pushes past the seal

Can u see anything from the top of the seal, as in if it’s leaking from the top

Is that a hole in the side of the strut plse, as it seems around that level if that’s a hole

This also shows u where the seals are

Wonder if u put it into off road height and then if someone lowers it to access height whilst ur watching it would show anything

Thanks Gary. What I can't understand though, is that there is oil on the aluminium casing too Confused

PS. that's not a hole on the side, it's just a bit of muck

Hi buddy

Assume it’s leaking from the inside strut so as the strut is compressed it leaks into the aluminium casing

wonder if it’s leaking from the top seal, there’s a small O ring seal there , wonder if there’s a hole somewhere else allowing the oil to get to the outside casing

Just looking through some pictures of the nearside to see what other items containing oil may also cause that

Hang on, the FBH fuel line is around the top of that leak , there’s a connector there

Let me see if I can find some pics and see if it’s at the same level as a comparison

Found them at last

Red line is roughly where the leak line starts at

The yellow circle is where the FBH fuel line connector it , I think it’s 5mm , as u look at the connector the bottom pipe is metal , top of the connector is plastic

Has a plastic covers on the coupling , u have to push the covers out the way to access the pushfit section underneath the covers of the connector in order to release the pipe

See what u think plse, only guessing here , but maybe it’s that connector leaking diesel ??

I’m 99% sure it was a 5mm coupling for that FBH fuel line

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5mm-Push-in-equ...xycD9TPoSY

But of course won’t know until u look , as u look at the strut frame, it’s black and tucked behind and held in by a clip

Plse let us know , I might even earn a brownie point Whistle

That's great, thanks Gary. I'll take a look tomorrow morning and let you know.

I assume plastic arch liner out and I'll see the connector clipped in there?

Your so welcome and fingers crossed it’s just that and not a strut

Indeed, ref the wheel arch liner, I removed mine when I was fitting new struts

If u look at ur pic I’ve circled the connector in question

Also if it is that pipe I used a mini tube cutter so I don’t get any shards of metal/ plastic in the fuel line

The bottom pipe has like a notch in it so it makes it difficult to push the cover back to allow access to the pushfit sleeve part of thr couple

Yes please, let us know how u get on and fingers crossed I might have got something right for a change Laughing

Just to report back on this. It's not the diesel line to the FBH. I took a look at it this morning and it's bone dry.

I've given it a good clean up and I'll see how it goes over the course of the next month or so.

Many thks for the heads up Thumbs Up

with u cleaning it up hopefully will show exactly where it’s coming from

Another thought , as u look at my pic where the wheelarch liner has been removed , could it be a loose intercooler clamp as it’s quite near

Thks again and Look forward to see what u find and hope it’s a simple fix Thumbs Up
