Navigation Display Colours [Day/Night/Auto]
So, I got called out a daft O'Clock last night and had to try to find an address in the middle of nowhere in a maze of unlit country lanes.
Obviously I used the sat nav. However even though it was dimmed with the dash lighting control, in my photophobic-just-woken-up state at stupid O'Clock in the morning it was too bright so I fiddled with the settings.
Selecting "night" mode colours was much better on the eyes at that obscene hour but "Auto" mode just seems to leave the display in "day" mode.
Why doesn't Auto mode know to switch the nav display to it's night colours when it's the middle of the night? Is it just my car (MY2012) that's broken or is this another "feature" that LR haven't bothered to make work properly?

Mine works fine on Auto tbh
There are two light sensors ...one is in the dash binnacle just below the speedo needle at the centre point the other is in the windscreen in front of the rear view mirror ...not sure which controls the screen tbh but suspect its the one in the dash. Either way you can test it by putting something over them and seeing what happens 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Mine works fine too. Even changes to night mode in tunnels and very heavy tree lined avenues. Might be that you think you have selected AUTO but in fact you haven't finalised the selection and it will still be on DAY.If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer

Hmmm. Me thinks something is wrong with mine then.....
Just been out to test it now it's dark.
DG is correct that there is a light sensor on the speedo that controls the dimming of the panel & screen illumination. That works - if I shine a torch on it the instruments and screen get brighter, when I turn the torch off they dim again. So all ok with that.
But, I still can't get the nav screen to go from it's daytime colours to nighttime colours automatically (it's definitely set to auto).
There is also an auto setting for the display theme (white or black buttons) i normally have it permanently set to the dark option but I've just tested the auto setting on that and it doesn't seem to do anything either - just permanently sets it to "light".
I think it might be broken - is there anything else I can check or is this something for the dealer to sort out next time it's in?

Thanks guys, it's reassuring to know that it's not just me being stupid again
It looks like this is a real problem "feature" of the sat nav. I wonder if it affects enough people to be worth drawing Liam's attention to it when he's back.
Is anyone else affected?

Mine's got the auto dimming headlights too, which I don't think are standard, even on all HSEs. So I wonder if mine works off that second sensor, which is windscreen based, and is thus more sensitive. Otherwise they're all bust except mine and DG's.If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer

Does the XS have the same sat-nav as the HSE?

Don't think it would be running off the auto dip sensor tbh ...I'm fairly convinced it's off the speedo sensor21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Looks like there are three of us with working ones then, and the rest are bust. Not too bad for LR
Mine even worked in a quite well lit tunnel yesterday afternoon and returned to day running within a second of hitting the sunlight at the other end.If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer
