If there is an auto setting in the menu then it should work. If the car is still under warranty it would be worth asking for a revised software load - you never know your luck as you may get a map upgrade too...

Just been having a play about in the car to see if this works or not. If I go into the sat nav set up the Auto button is highlighted so I assume this means it is switched on

If I click on the night button, the auto button is not lit up and the night button is

When it is set to auto I have covered the whole dash binnacle but no change, I have also covered the square on the back of the interior mirror and the sensor that is in the interior mirror housing all to no effect Sad

DG you mention a sensor on the dash near the speedo needle. Can you see the same thing on this photo?

Because I can't find it Embarassed

It's underneath the centre of the speedo needle ...not sure you will "see" it as I think it's bit like the warning lights ...well hidden until required Smile

Shocked Got it!

Once I zoomed in and put my glasses on I can see it (just) However, it still doesn't cause the sat nav to go into night colours Laughing

Hairy Dan's findings are the same as mine - Auto seems to do nothing. Confused

My car is booked in at the Dealer's for the "Hesitation" fix on the 7th so I'm going to get them to have a look at the sat nav then.

OK I think I've made a Discovery Smile

This is for a 2013MY ..don't know if it works on earlier MY's

I think it's trying to be a bit clever....and there seems to be another sensor which is just below the "home menu" button and in between the on\off volume and Analogue clock.

Time = 18.00hrs (remember this)

I put a rag over the light sensor by the speedo and the map screen dimmed after 10 or so seconds but didn't change display colour...then I put my finger over the newly found sensor ......and nothing happened Crying or Very sad

I then altered the clock to 10.30pm did the same as above and after about 10 seconds... hey presto the map colours changed to night.

So it appears that the display knows whether it's really dark outside with the assistance of the time and date Confused

Don't know if this helps anyone or not tbh Laughing

I take it you mean this DG, just under the Home Key

I've been out again and put a cloth over the speedo sensor and after a short while the display does dim but that is all, I've tried covering the new sensor, changing the time and various other things and it wont go into night mode automatically so like JonM I think it's a trip to the dealers Sad

Sounds like it, I did do a reset to default in the Sat Nav menu but this didn't do anything, I may try a hard reset that everybody on here recommends for most problems on a D3 Whistle Not sure whether it will have any effect though

Well did a hard reset today and it hasn't fixed it so a trip to the dealers is in order. One thing I did find out today was that if you select the nav system you get the annoying button up agreeing to warnings etc which you need to push to use the system. Well, if you don't push the agree button after about 10 seconds it it disappears and the map etc appears Thumbs Up

If I cover the sensor under the home button with my finger the Nav display dims Thumbs Up
But I now have a feeling that 'night mode' is not included on the Landmarks Big Cry
Due to the unique way the LM's are spec'd, I don't even know what I've got!

As far as I can tell, the sensor under the "HOME" button does exactly nothing on my car (which leaves the unanswered question "so why is it there?") Confused

Crews, do you have the "Auto" option on the set-up screen as in Hairy Dan's photos above?

There's also an Auto option in the "Theme" set-up for the buttons on the infotainment system (or manual dark/light settings for the buttons) on mine this Auto doesn't do anything either. Does this work for those of you who have the Day/Night Auto working and not for those of us who don't?
