Is there any easier way to get this than paying Landrover? I asked my dealer about upgrading my own nav a few weeks ago and he quoted £440+VAT!

MY2012+ owners (like the one above) should be able to self install the map update, they come on a USB stick and update the HDD automatically when inserted in the USB socket under the arm rest, similar to the old DVD method (except that the USB flash drive may be removed after the upload to the hard disk is complete.) I don't think MY2010-2011s owners have a choice other than the dealer, as I believe they are the only ones in possession of the special tool that needs to be hooked up to the car for the maps update.Umberto B

Dan... Bill's is for gen 2.1 which is MY12 onwards ....
To check product compatibility with your Discovery 4 Model Year 12, you must ensure the number contained in your VIN number is below SALLSAAAD4CA643045.
Any number above this means you are already driving with the most up to date map.
Car is in for a service on Tuesday so will ask dealer & see what they have to say Cheers Ian

I'd certainly be interested to see how much they want to rip us off. I recently updated the maps in my Tom Tom for about £35 from Tom Tom. Not only is the route guidance much, much better than the hopeless LR stuff, but there's also much more on the device. I keep using the LR one in the hope that it will have been visited in the night by the sat nav angel, and will give sensible routes, but alas, I think I'll be dreaming for a long time.

Has anyone got this update from land rover? I'm on a 2009/2010 d4 commercial, be interesting to know if there's any significant difference to warrant the £170
Since my D3 is from 2007 I think it might be useful to purchase a new version. Last week I was in an area where a complete new neighbourhood was build and not listed in my navigation
Does anyone know if it is a simple plug&play system (e.g. just change the DVD in the DVD player?
I ask the question since I've never changed a map before in an on-board navi.Discovery 3 HSE

Martin this thread is for D4 upgrading ....if you do a search in D3 'In Car electronics' you will find info on your options.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Thnx for the answer, However when I apply for D3 on the nav website a upgrade is available. I assume that the how to should be the same as for D4 ?
And...I read the different threads on this topic in the D3 section but it all has to do with Landrover refuses to order the 2013 upgrade for the D3.
Well , I'm rather satisfied with the 2011/12 upgrade So...the question remains : how to change;is it just change the DVD or is there a complete installation instruction Discovery 3 HSE

Ah I see....well I'm not sure the D4 system would be compatible in the D3 at all ...I've not come across anyone who has made the upgrade 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
