Mystery black box
I have just found this black box floating around the engine bay. It seems to be plugged into the wiring on the back of a sensor on the fuel rail. Any ideas.
It's on a disco 3 2.7 which I have just bought for peanuts. But it does have issues.
So far I have broken to the tailgate and replaced actuator. Fixed the black smoke with a new IC hose.
I still have a engine that sometimes goes into limp mode on acceleration, which causes rough ideal and poor start and car sound like a tractor.
First thought is a crankshaft sensor but that looks like a lot of hard work if it's not.
Any ideas.

A jpg image paints a thousand words.
Rough idle on start could be worn out injectors. Balance figures needed via a suitable widget. Fault codes also need read re limp mode, otherwise it’s all just expensive guess work.

I am waiting for a new cable for my Nanocom to read the fault codes.
That it might be a chip box.

Cheap readers won't access what you're after on the Discovery.
You'll need one that is known to work on L319 ( D3/4 ) otherwise, you're wasting your time.Mods:

I have a nanocom but just waiting for the correct lead to turn up
How about up-loading a couple of photographs of the Mystery black box ?
We might then be able to help.

If its connected to the fuel sensor its a tuning box. They are a waste of time and can damage your engine, it needs to be removed and binned. If you want tuning get a proper remap on it.

Could we also have a photograph of the other side please?
I fear it looks very much like a tuning box.
