MY2015 rear seat entertainment

Can anyone tell me how the rear seat entertainment works and how good/bad it is please?

What can you/can't you stream?

Can screens have two different films running?

How do you connect a games console?

Can they stream a video from ipod/pad/phone?

Can you stream from a portable hard drive plugged in somewhere?

Want to know if this is worth having over simply using an iPad and a mount Smile

I do not know what the difference is between the MY12 and 15 but I was not very impressed with the RSE on the MY12. I fitted the Freelander screens to my first D4 and I think they were better than the factory fit. I would go for IPADS personally. Thumbs Up

Thanks Troon Bow down

Seems as though it won't play video from any other source than TV or DVD though - also won't allow you to watch two different DVDs at same time Sad

Anyone know any different? Or is there a solution for it to play video from USB/iPod/etc.,

I can't help with MY15, as it may be different to the MY13 I have!

On mine, you can watch different things on the two screens. Obviously you can only watch one DVD, be that on either or both screens, as you've only got one DVD player!

If you want different video sources on the screens, then you can use standard composite video from a portable DVD player, or rip the DVDs onto a USB stick. That way, both rear passengers can watch different DVDs at the same time. Video from an iPod also works if it's the type that has a composite video out, but it won't work from an iPad, as that outputs HDMI digital video.

We have 2014 with RSE, and it is quite good. Each side can watch different things but only from different sources. However, bought a little USB widget which plays back via composite output and that worked fine playing into the composite inputs, so both sides then can play differnet films from USB.

The films need to be ripped and converted to DIVx format, then a 128gb stick can hold a decent amount of films.

Worked with success on a journey to skiing last week, and on the return it kept the kids amused on a 21 hour journey as we got stuck in snow chaos on the motorways in the Alps on sat.

With 3 people in the back of the car (11, 13 and 21 year old niece) they had the sound from a couple of films coming through the car stereo rather than headphones so all three could watch.

We also watched a few DVDs in the front while stuck in jams!

Not sure if I would pay however much it cost, but ours was an ex demo car with it already in, so a bit of a bonus and the kids enjoy having it. The acid test was last week going skiing and it seemed to pass the test compared to ipads last year. The only criticism was the video quality wasnt perfect, but I suspect that is due to my ripping and converting methods.

As a parent, I find it easier than the tangle of wires in the back, and the constant need to hide ipads etc each time you park.

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

I know its a good system, but mine has rarely been used. My kids are too old, and we are not cool enough to be taking them on long journeys anymore!
