Thanks for the replies, mine has failed, I am just sick of the warning light, i read somewhere that you can turn it off, but I cant recall where.
I have ordered a replacement additional excide battery so that should at least put the light out for a day or two.

I'm pretty sure I have read that it cannot be turned off.
I replaced by small Exide stop/start battery 2 1/2 years ago and haven't seen the warning light since.

Can't understand why anyone would want to turn it off!- after 3 years use I still think it's great.
If it dosn't work with a fault light on aux(small) battery needs replacing.
If it doesn't work with no fault light main battery needs replacing regardless of what the voltage reads.
Park up, undo seat belt, engine stops, park brake comes on, transmission selects park, open door, seat goes down steering wheel goes up, what more could you ask for?- brilliant. It can when others can't,

Mainly when I stop to reverse into my drive it decides to cut in and leaves me in the middle of the road with the engine off before I can select reverse !... that 10 seconds or so it takes to cycle through and re-start can be decidedly dodgy! otherwise don't mind it too much..I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

In the same situation mine is just as fast as any gearbox, by easing your foot off the brake peddle slightly just before you come to a halt the engine will just give a little blip and the SS is disabled until you reach 10-15mph. After making a SS stop the engine will be running before my foot can change from the brake peddle to the accelerator peddle.
In your situation the engine should restart the moment you touch the gear selector without taking your foot off the brake. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

You can engage reverse before actually coming to a standstill. It shouldn’t take 10 seconds to select it.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

Might be easiest just to engage the button to turn it off as you pull up to reverse. Obviously, it turns back on when you start your car up the next time you use it.
I have to agree with the earlier comment, even when I am manoeuvreing mine restarts so quickly it’s no bother.
CheersGary
