The easiest way to stop it being stolen by cloning is to pull the fuse for the OBD port ...no one in their right mind is going to spend half the night taking the motor apart to fit it again
Anyway ...theories on the key are not yet answered properly ....and surely you have to report the theft to claim
Too much BS ...not enough answers on this TBH 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The alarm won't stop these kind of people from taking it.
Terminal off the starter in an old school fashion that will stop them.

The truth is there is no one yet to hold their hand up and say theirs has been stolen 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Surely somefing in it though more than an opportunist just passing by......
anyhow, I've had a reaaaaaaaly day today, nowts gone right from the moment I tried to collect a R350L at 8.00am till being given the run around by a A5 cabriolet owner who had me do a 3 hour round trip this evening only to find he'd forgotten his spare key but gave instructions not to release the car even though I'd spoken to him a few hours before to arrange an out of office collection, instead he off home to he's wife and kids without even a call to say don't come over
so on that happy note, I'll bury me head on HMRC website doing me end of year P14..night night all

Of that no doubt you are right ...but it's not quite the same as the BM and Others ...to coin a Savillism 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Sorry to pop my head up on this one.... Probably get it shot off in thirty seconds so will regret posting ......
In these circumstances I would suggest that the locking signal from your key has been blocked..it is highly unlikely they will go to all of the efforts of key coding purely to break into the car....if the car had been subsequently taken then yes you're either missing a key or someone has coded one...
As previously described most evenings certain areas of London appear to suffer these random attacks with multiple victims with multiple manufacturers involved...there is evidence and numerous people arrested in possession of blockers.....these can be a number of devices from small hand held remote blippers to larger more powerful devices.... Although cynical about usage we have played with them and they do work unfortunately for a considerable distance....
All these devices do is totally block or wipe out the signal from your remote key. I always lock my Disco using the keypad door handles and physically watch the mirrors close.........

makes sense 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
I have been reading this with some interest, if your remote signal can be cloned, does that mean that possibly your car could be stolen and disappear into the night never to be seen again ?
I'd hate mine to be stolen and if it was, I'd never want it back, however, thieving swines need their collar feeling.
I took my aftermarket tracker device out of my Defender Td5, and I'm onto my second D3 now, and it's hidden away in there too. I hope it never leaves my drive without my knowledge, if it does, hopefully the culprits will not be nicking cars for long and maybe get chance to holiday at Her Majesty's Pleasure.

They're not cloning the signal... just blocking it so your car doesn't lock when you use the remote. (You walk away thinking it's locked when it isn't!) At the moment, the only way to clone a new key and drive away, is if they have access to the OBD port inside the car.
There is a way to open and start a keyless system, without the key being present, but this is so difficult and convoluted that there's absolutely no chance of it happening at the moment. Much easier to burgle a home and take the originals.

Yup - mirrors folded. Also use the door handle buttons
Really odd. Had the same process with the Audi!
So, if KVT locks the car with the door handle button, this poses 2 questions, how are they intercepting the unlock signal to replicate it to gain access? and how does a signal blocker prevent the button on the handle working?
Even if KVT did press the button on the handle, and then perhaps mistakenly pressed the unlock button on the fob as he walked away, the car would re-lock if no door was opened within a certain time.
I think LR would be wise to enable a 'chirp' to confirm locking. Then there would be less doubt as to whether it was or was not locked.

Do the indicators not flash on the D4 the same as the D3,long single flash for unlock and 3 short flashes for locked?

Yes they do, but when you use the door buttons, you can only see the side repeater.
For some reason, and I don't know what it is, I feel less confident locking my 4 than I did with my 3 I usually do not touch the key, I keep it in the small pocket at the top of my jeans pocket , and do not normally need to get it out. I invariably use the button on the handle to lock, and of course the auto unlock when you place your hand behind the handle.

Didn't mean to sound sanctimonious, the best bet would be to check as you lock(which i have stopped practicing but will start again ).I had a MKV Golf and an MKI Freelander done the same night and the same way,no signs of forced entry and cars unlocked, after that it was a case of standing between the cars and check doors once locked just before going to bed.

One difference between the 3 and the 4 is you could check a door was actually locked on the 3 by tugging the handle.
