Sorry if this has been done before, but I'm wondering if it's worth fitting mud flaps in an effort to keep the sides and rear clean and if so which ones, standard OEM's or copies?

Definitely worth fitting...sides are a lot cleaner since fitting.
I got non LR copies. Identical to LR apart from one letter.
Bought from Slimer....less than half price!  FFRR Autobiography 4.4 TDV8
