How much weight on an Expedition Roof Rack

Could someone give me some indication on how much weight the Expedition Roof Rack can carry?

I'm looking to move some old Railway Sleepers (8ft long) and was wondering if they could go on the roof rack rather than inside (with either the tailgate down (2ft out) or the front seat down.

Cheers,

Officially the LR rack can carry 54kg

...but that is not to say that it wouldn't carry considerably more Wink

I hereby absolve DG of all liability

At 54kg it would mean the maximum weight was about 8 1/2 stone, which means that officially I'm too heavy to climb onto it whenever I'm lashing something down Whistle

As the railway sleepers are about 80kg each I guess I won't be putting them on the roof.

Which leads me to another question (though related). How much weight can the D3 carry inside, rather than tow?

Well I'm around 95kg and I stand on the rack all day long together with 50kg+ of gear . Some of us have travelled with 2 x MTR on 19" alloys and they weigh in at 35KG's each....Therefore ...I personally would be comfortable with an 80kg sleeper one at a time ...just make sure its lashed well and take it very, very steady.

Well I have had 10 lengths of 100x100x10mm x 2.5m long mild steel angle and 20 lengths of 50x5x3m long flat on the roof rack so no worries Thumbs Up
