yes, of course. My assumption (looking at his odometre) was that he got the car brand new.
no way that much oil should be consumed after just 7000 odd miles--

ISTR, that wouldn't have been unusual on the early D3's. My 2006 D3 used very little oil in the first 10k miles, but others did. Both my MY14 & MY15 D4's used about 2 bars on the screen prior to 1st service.
I had intended to do an interim oil change, but never got around to it. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

As did my MY14.
However if the low battery warning is active the level reads low (1-2 bars) until the battery is back to full strength when it reads at the top of the scale.

went past my trusted Indie this afternoon for a chat. He opened the bonnet, had a sniff and told me I had an oil leak.

My 'dip stick' has not moved since I bought the vehicle and I have now done 10600 miles.
So today I put in a litre of Slik and now it is showing 'over filled' and according to the handbook to drive it now could cause serious damage to the engine.
It advises me to take it to an authorised dealer for rectification - how on a truck !!
Does anybody have any other advice ?
Why would you add a litre if it didn't need any???? But yes, on a truck would be the best bet. Otherwise get a vacuum oil extractor and remove a litre. Or jack it up and get underneath to drain a litre from the sump though that is easier said than done. Its hard to control flow from an opened sump bung.

I didn't think it could possibly have done so many miles and not used any oil at all so took it that the oil indicator was not all that accurate.
It was not oil that I put in, it was SLIK to protect the engine but now it seems I may have done exactly the opposite.
oh jeez.... I hope that's not an expensive lesson for you
whatever you do, don't drive it until you can remove 1L of oil.
What is this Slik you mentioned? You really shouldn't be adding ANYTHING to the engine oil
actually, you might as well do a complete oil change right now --

SLIK is well known as an oil additive.
When used it coats all the internal moving parts with a synthetic coating to extend engine life, it also helps the engine run smoother.
Tests were done some years ago where SLIK was put in an engine and driven for a few miles to get the oil hot, the oil was then drained out and the vehicle driven, with no oil at all in the sump, for several miles without damage to it.
