How much oil in D4

Car in for service today, a few issues raised by me re work done or claimed to of been done at point of pick up.

Not entirely happy / convinced so was looking through sheet and charges later:

Have been charged for 6.5 liters of oil, filter was changed as well.

Manual states 5.7 liters

Seem to remember from previous services top up oil left in vehicle, but not on this occasion by a main dealer.

So is 6.5 liters correct or does your main dealer leave excess in vechicle for top up?

Anybody got a 48k service spec sheet for a D4 Question

5.9 litres with an oil filter change - the initial fill is 6.75 litres.

I have to give instruction not to provide and charge me with a top-up bottle; likewise with screenwash, fuel additive etc.

Screenwash charged but bottle still half empty on checking.

Oil sump plug charged for, doubt they removed my RLD sump guard but will check tommorrow.

Job sheet signed by Techie stated wheels had been rotated and service record signed stamped, both not done. Only realized service record not done when back home, 50 mile round trip to now sort. Had even left it on the passenger seat as instructed to make their life easier.

Service Manager indicated wheels not rotated due to possibly being directional tyres, nothing on Coopers LTZ to indicate this!

Charged for fixing DPF heat shield as cause of metallic rattling, though still there on pick up. Then found to be a cracked rear weld in rear joint of exhaust, which was taken back to w/shop and fixed.

Not big things admitted, have had far worse, but just creates a feeling of unease in what has and hasn't been done. Don't mind expense if the job is done correctly.

On my last D4 the rear silencer broke off because the welds at the rear joint failed, the whole system was replaced FOC by Land Rover as it was a common fault apparently. When I took it into TV Land Rover they knew exactly what had failed without looking at it as it seems it happens rather a lot Thumbs Up

UPDATE:

Checked underneath this AM, wet and windy so did not feel like getting spanners out, but it appeared clear that both guards sump and gearbox (for fuel filter) had not been removed judging by grass and dirt still wedged between them and chassis

Decided to take it straight back to Dealers where it was taken into workshops. Knowing the head guy there was happy to let him look into matters.

It was confirmed oil sump plug not fitted, fuel filter not drained, wheels not rotated, srceenwash not supplied or filled up, top up oil not supplied, exhaust broken not picked up on saftey inspection, service record not signed, spare wheel not checked on safety check.

The points though not big, have been rectified and an adjustment to the service cost. Having used then in the past and experienced good things and they have responded in the appropriate way I do not think fair to name and shame. I have had far worse cases of routine service rip offs in this area.

When going through all this the intial £489 pounds being charged for an oil and brake fluid change and an odour filter, (no fuel filter, no air filter etc) seems even less value than I first thought.

I just wonder how many people up and down the country get short changed everyday by any servicing dept Whistle

I have faced similar issues but I also know the pressure the individual technicians work under.

I have been upfront with dealers and told that I am fully aware of the service schedule and will be dip-checking their service on pick-up. I have also said that a failed dip-check will require the service manager to meet me in the car park for a complete schedule check.

Despite this I have walked around my vehicle with the service manager to show him seat bolts not checked, locks not lubed, air filter not changed but charged, oil filter housing insecure, engine cover missing, fuel filter not changed but charged, wheels not removed and lights not checked.

Thankfully not all the above as ever happened on one service, but I have had a number of services where there has been at least 3 issues and this is before diagnostic issues rear their ugly head. To date I have only had 1 service by a main dealer where I could not find fault and that was last year. Thankfully the service from my indy has been near faultless.

My D4 gets its 2nd service on Friday….

Makes you wonder once out of warranty, if its worth doing servicing, yes change the oil. but leave the rest till something needs fixing.

In all honesty thats all servicing really is, change required fluids and have a poke around for any potential problems and anyone can do that, see stuff rubbing, rust where there should not be any, same with leaks etc
I would bet a pint that if you speak to most people you know they dont even get their cars serviced never mind broken things fixed!

Not sure seems from my12 servicing is determined by computer based on chassis number.

Just checked my service invoice from yesterday and found that I have been charged for 7L of oil, a new sump plug and gasket. I removed the guards underneath to check and there is no way the sump plug was changed. I also found the side of the sump and the block up behind the starter motor to be covered in oil. Dealer claimed this to be "residual". Surely any technician worth his salt would have wiped the side of the sump before/after the oil change if indeed he did have the guard off. Also have the obligatory screenwash charge despite me filling it the day before it went in.

think most garages use vac oil drainer ( as bmw) out through drain pipe on o/s engine . so no need to remove guard and not on service sheet. techs are restricted with time and being pushed to get more work out of workshop (low wage and bonus waved in front of them)

same BS, whether it's oil flush, workshop rags or screenwash. plus the time @180 per hour to do it.

But don't get me started Banging Head
