How much gas for 2 weeks away?

Off to France on Tuesday and SWMBO wants to take 2 x 12kg bottles I only think we need one or better still 2 x 5kg bottles. There will be 6 of us to cook for and we will be there for 2 weeks. Should also add that we have an electric kettle and will be running the fridge of electric as well.

What would you recommend?

I usually have 2x6kg bottles (as they live in the front locker), and have never got anywhere near emptying one despite using a gas bbq almost every night for three week holidays. If you go where it's cooler though and you've got Alde heating, that will hammer the gas because the electicity supply on many French sites is only 6 amps, so you'll need gas to supplement. However, that shouldn't be an issue at this time of the year.

Thumbs Up Thanks, going to take the 12kg bottles as its full and I'll not fill the 2 x 6kg bottles until next year when the 12kg is empty.

Thumbs Up

It certainly is a gas barbacue Greg. Took a full 6kg bottle of gas to France in mid June and still using it now in pickering for a week. Had a couple of weekends since we returned as well. Gas is so much easier to cook on than charcoal.
You might have a tyre from big Dave to drop off at my house for Chris soon

We camp for a fortnight every year and always take a new 3.9kg propane bottle that is used on a 2 burner camping stove with grill. We usually have one meal out and cook a full meal from basic ingredients each evening and we never use much more than half a bottle.

regards,
George

I have a 5kg here attached to a Cadac and it is still nowhere near 3/4 used and we're a week and a half in.

Depends on how much you'll use it but I'd suggest a 5kg is fine unless you're in a field and using everything on gas.

2x12kg is overkill for sure.
