Moving Dutch trees.

Before I start, i've already had all the sarcastic comments possible from my family and Dutch friends about getting my ears tested, visiting Specsavers and smoking funny tobacco ect, but whilst on holiday in NL last week this big tree really did jump out whilst I was reversing at a fare lick. Embarassed The only visable damage was the tread cover on the top of the rear back bumper 'poped' open but when clipped back in nothing at all is visable.

However, as is always the case, the real damage is under the cover in that the impact has some how cut clean through the three thin wires that run to the off side rear parking sensor.

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the sensor unit from the bumper so that I can splice in a new section of wire to check if the sensors are working.

And can the sensor heads be purchased separately if not.

Any constructive comments at this stage would be appreciated.

Well I would simply unclip/unscrew the car from the bumper then unclip the multi plug push the car out of the way and take it from there Thumbs Up I expect you will find that the rear steel bumper is dented.
In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Thanks guys,

I'll hold the bumper and get the wife to push the car out of the way. Laughing

I should have fitted that reversing camera, I could have watched it all happen.

And before anyone says it; Disco "Tree" yes i've heard that one too.

At least we have bumpers. When a tree jumped into the back of our old L200 it was the tailgate that took the impact (and me, when Mrs Do$h saw what I'd done to her truck).

Have look towards the end of this thread. There is a method of turning the sensors without getting the bumper skin off, it involves removing them first. Not sure if there will be enough wire to do a fix though. You will have to have a look once you have the sensor out.

Popelka, not as costly as when the tailgate subsequently collapsed under the weight of the timber balanced on it....... just after it had been repaired Big Cry

Cheers CaverD3,

I was planning to have a play with it today to try and sort the problem, but yet again beaten by the great British weather. I could tidy up the garage first and do it in there, but i'm affraid thats a job too far.
