Thanks for the replies. Would I notice poor handling with a duff front wheel bearing? I have been unsure about the handling since I had the vehicle, but I got it checked last summer and was given the all clear. However it has felt a little more obvious lately.

They tend to make a grinding or grating noise, but that's not always the case. A feeling of loose steering can also be attributed to a failing wheel bearing.GAP IID Pro Multi Vehicle Defender L316 2007-2015 - Discovery 3 - Discovery 4 - Discovery Sport L550 - Freelander 2 - Range Rover Evoque L538 - Range Rover L322 - Range Rover L405 - Range Rover Sport L320 - Range Rover Sport L494 Electrical Fault Diagnostics

A dodgy wheel bearing can also send the car into " itself and limp home mode" too My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription

No noise, but there is an unusual feel to the steering from time to time that does not feel right. I'll have had the car a year soon, so I think I'll get a oil service and have this checked at the same time at my local Indy.

Just replaced N/S front on mine. No warning just started making horrible grinding noise. Only done 30,000mls!! Easy enough to do (apart from seized / tight as hub bolts!)
Put everything back together but bearing / hub seems to have a tiny bit of play. No noise, just a bit of play!
Anyone experienced this before? Is it normal??
Thanks

Assuming you used a quality part and fitted it in accordance with the guide on here, you may also have a little play in the steering tie rod/track rod end or even a ball joint. The tie rods are quite common, relatively inexpensive (by Disco standards) and easy to change.Get someone to grip the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock then 3 and 9 o'clock positions and give it a good shake whilst you look for the play, the new bearing shouldn't have any noticeable play
