No it's actually a pretty good deal.
I've got a "Lifetime" brake pad deal, It was £112 for the pads I selected and every time I think they might be getting a bit low I take it in and they get changed free of charge. Only once have they tried to sell me some other work and it was genuinely a rear caliper that was leaking. I got them to do it as at the time they could do it there and then and the price was reasonable.
It's a loss leader and designed to get you into their garages/stores on a regular basis.
The Halfords one has been around for about 3 or 4 years now at a guess as they started it when my brother in law was working there, it was him who told me about it that got me intrigued.
The good thing about it is that although they say if any other highlighted work on the brakes needs doing (lines/disks etc) must be done within 10 days for them to honour the pad warranty, you can take it elsewhere for the work or even do it yourself.
They said that eventually I would need new discs and then they hope to get that business. They also quoted under £300 for the 4 year service.
Currenty booked for service at £469 and Land Rover rear pads at £190 with local independent dealer as wasn't sure of the quality of a halfords stamp on the service book D4 2010 HSE Santorini Black
