IF you get it done and it fails, will it cancel the 6m extension? If you know you may have to spend some money maybe wait, get a pre mot check and get the jobs done first

Technically not, as it's a refusal to carry out a test, or a refusal of an MOT certificate.
Now, this means it will show as a valid mot expiring say October, but the latest 'fail' will also show.
I assume this means that while you still have a valid certificate, the vehicle isn't roadworthy.
Thus it's the driver's responsibility to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy, & there is evidence that you have been informed it's not.
So you would likely be in a sticky situation if you have an accident, or stopped for a road-worthiness inspection by the police.

So clear this up please.
As of March we all had an extension of 6 months on our MOT, provided the car was roadworthy.
So presumably this means that everyone has effectively an 18 month MOT. So why are people talking about it being busy in September/October etc when it will all catch up. Surely we all have a 18 month MOT and then on our usual date plus 6 months we get it done again, and we all revert back to the usual 12 months. Now thats my understanding, am I right ? 1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch

The extension is unlikely to keep going, my guess is another month or two. It’s very unlikely cars with mots due at 12 months in October will be extended the extra 6 months. So, there will be a log jam of cars to mot, all falling at the same point.

It is going to be carnage!
The trucks are not being tested either, and there is no way they can lump the whole Cov19 truck mots on top of the normal mots as they were at capacity anyway.
I suggested getting the car mot tested now, as most people are skinflints and will run the mot extension for all it is worth.

I just found a Department for Transport statement that said this mot extension applied to all vehicles needing a test between the end of March 2020 and the end of March 2021. Although it did add that this directive could change.
Mine is due in July, and will be done at my usual time with a service.
Plus garages need the work to keep going. 1955 SWB Series 1 86 inch
