that’s what i was always led to believe , will see if there’s some official documentation regarding this

after some searching i found this extract

so , for example would an EGR be a testable item and therefore requiring the removal of the engine cover , enclosed link as well

14 ) Inspection procedure

The MOT test must be carried out without dismantling, so it isn’t always possible to inspect some testable items.

Bonnets, engine covers, luggage compartments, access flaps and passenger compartment doors must be opened when it's necessary to inspect testable items. If for example a bonnet, door or access panel designed to be easily opened can’t be opened, so preventing access to a testable item, you must either abandon or refuse to carry out the test.

I’m concerned about the revised test re the DPF and “any smoke is a fail” stance. Anticipating costly work to get through next year’s MOT when a bit of injection cleaner prior to the test scraped me through the last few times.
