MOT Failed
Well I wasn't expecting an MOT failure. Dropped the car in on Monday morning and heard nothing all day, so just assumed it had passed. Spoke to the garage at 16:30 only to be told it had failed.
I've been online and seen what its failed on and advisories:
Reason(s) for failure:
offside rear upper Suspension arm has excessive play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)
Advisory notice item(s):
park brake noisy in operation
off side park brake cable hook warn
offside wiper starting to smear
nearside front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
offside front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
nearside rear brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
offside rear brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Oil leak ()
prop shaft centre mount rubber starting to crack
offside Brake pipe slightly corroded front to rear (3.6.B.2c)
The two big ones above are the suspension arm, and oil leak. The oil leak is from the transfer box input shaft seal. The price to have these two sorted I have been quoted is around £1300.
The car was only in for a service around 6 weeks ago, so slightly surprised it failed, and I thought some of the minor advisories would have been noted and fixed.
Oh well. Land Rovers....

The handbrake cable hook is a one bolt fix, if you leave it the hook goes razor edged and damages the handbrake cable
Brake pipes well worth getting the worst of the rot off and greasing them up before they become an mot fail.

Yep it's those easy jobs....... the head sheard on mine
Needless to say the handbrake cable is now secured in place with a big cable tie !!!!
Cable can rub up against the tyre.There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

WD have authorised the repair of the oil leak and suspension arm, so that's something. I just need to wait to get the car back, and send off the paperwork for the refund etc.
I will get the other bits and bobs sorted.
I'm going to get .Geoff to get some new brakes on it, and probably a gearbox flush at some point when work calms down for me a bit.

Well got the car back on Thursday. Bill with forum discount came to £1200 for the work and MOT. I've submitted the documents to WD, so hopefully they pay up as agreed.
The car didn't really feel any different from when it went in, bar possibly the 4 wheel alignment. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing!!!
Got me down to Cornwall ok last night. Got a charity walk on today around the Cornish footpath. 19 miles today!

Glad it is all sorted now, but certainly expensive and it makes me worry about my 2010 one

I wouldn't worry. they said the transfer box was an rare leak in their experience.
They are irritating because they are clearly the best car at what they do. Is a shame they need so much maintaining though compared to other manufacturers.

I would certainly agree, they really are amazing, but I guess the complexity as to what is needed to make them so special leads to the extra maintenance.
Starting to cloud over a little now near Redruth, but it is due to be a nice weekend.Andy

I received my WD cheques in the post yesterday. It was much quicker than I expected and overall, I found them very good.
Normal service is resumed

My car failed its MOT test today.
Prop shaft bearing likely to break up Central.
Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn Nearside Front Lower.
Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn Offside Front Lower.
The bearing ... needs to be replaced, already disassembled, waiting for a new one.
But the rest were replaced 2 months ago (bushes and pins)
And they claim they are worn out... I talked to my mechanic who replaced it and he says it is impossible...
Someone here probably wants to rip me off for the costs...?
The mechanic checked and says everything is OK, after replacing the bearing on the shaft, he will personally go for a retest.

front lower suspension arms and rear uppers are apparently a common issue. They are heavy beasts and weight transfer when accelerating and braking causes significant strains.... at least this what my local indy (who know Land rover really well) told me.
I replaced my rear uppers with the Advanced Factors RRS versions and the difference in handling and ride was literally night and day.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

The mechanic personally went to the MOT retest and asked for the front wishbones to be checked again...
It turned out that the car had passed its MOT....???? and the supposed play was simply due to the rubber element in the bushing and not to their damage.
The rear bushings are of large diameter with a large amount of rubber which is supposed to cushion the vibrations of the suspension and therefore these bushings are softer.
