Modified Trolley Jack (and New Wheels fitted)
After buying a set of wheels for off-road use I realised I was never going to change them using the LR supplied jack. After searching the site for ideas, I decided to buy a trolley jack. I got the 3-ton jack from Machine Mart that some others have.
When it came to change the wheels I was a little un-nerved by the fact that the jack saddle did not sit 'nicely' under the chassis rails. I also tried the wishbone points but the jack was too close to the wheel to be used properly.
I decided to modify the jack saddle to provide one that was more in line with the design of the top of the standard LR jack.
This is the original jack saddle supplied :
This is my attempt to make a saddle that fits the chassis and includes a locator pin:
Closer details of the new saddle:
It works very well, the locator fits into the original chassis jack points and sits snuggly under the chassis rail. It enabled me to change the wheels pretty easily. This was my first attempt at making something like this - A second version is planned with a few differences to make it slightly easier in use.
I now have my new 19"s from a FFRR Vogue fitted with brand-new Scorpion Zero's that I won on eBay for a amazing price of £350!! The wheels look ace IMHO.
Was jack saddle made up by you ? if so some dimensions would go amiss

Looks like the same Jack that I got.
Clarke 3 tone std lift.
Find that I can get the saddle to fit the chassis rails.
But it is a bit fiddly trying to line up the slots.
That's a good effort TD and as ShM says, could do with some more info on your saddle spec.🏴

OK I'll take some measurements Sunday as it is.
I have thought of some improvements to this ..
Instead of the main part being oblong I'm thinking of circular now, without the 2 raised edges plus it needs to be a bit deeper (vertically). The locating pin will be a bit longer and pointed so it guides into chassis holes easier. Mark II will appear in a week or two

Can I suggest a rubber mat of some kind surrounding the pin thus preventing metal on metal and resultant scratching?Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
