missing part LR3 expedition roof rack
Bought a second hand OEM expedition roof rack (G4-style) for my LR3 but am missing a couple bits of mounting hardware (surprise).
I'm wondering if anyone has the dimensions of this metal spacer (gray bit in pic 13, below) that fits in the roof track, between the roof rack mounting bracket and the roof.
Anybody have any laying around they could measure? Thanks in advance.

This is common to be missing when buying a secondhand rack. I have mounted mine without this bracket, and seems to be fine. I use the rack quite a bit, for a roof tent, carrying spare wheels etc. I agree it would be nice to have, but I haven't had a problem with it being missing.
Cheers

Thanks! Good to know the rack can be used without. I removed the rack from the donor truck myself and it didn't have this bit either, though I have all the other hardware.

I also have a used rack. I didn't have any of the brackets so had all made up.
I don't have that bracket and have not had any issues with the rack with it missing.

Great. So does the mounting bracket just sit on top of the metal ridge that runs along the inside of the roof track? It also looks like I need to tap the hole for the mounting bolt.
I seem to remember ChrisTyler offering to make a set of these for another USA member some years back. It might be worth contacting him to see if he's still got the dimensions etcLRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

have used expedition rack and need front brackets
I picked up a used expedition roof rack for my LR3. Much to my disappointment, it did not include the front brackets that attach the left and right sides of the rack to the roof. Is there a place that sells these or that knows how to make them to spec?
thanks.
Jim
I was under the impression that Mantec (makers of the rear ladder and RAI) were taking over production of the expedition rack after the original suppliers went bust. Not sure if that ever came off, but it might be worth contacting them. http://www.mantec.co.ukLRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Any info then on front brackets for the full length rails?A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

I'm back to trying to figure this out. I just installed the rack without the front brackets, because I can't see how they mount to the roof without a mounting hole to receive. How did you guys mount yours to the roof without the gray spacer block?
Many..... Years back I made up a spacer using some offcuts from a thick rubber mat. You get the depth from roof, the distance of the holes from the brackets.
It's not 100% necessary, but it does mean there's less chance of some small sideways movement in the front legs under load.
You don't need the spacer to mount the brackets as the threaded hole is already there in the roof (under the membrane you puncture in the pic at the top of this thread). The front hole in the spacer is for a locating peg, not a threaded insert.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
