Missing heat shield
Just noticed that the heat shield between the engine block and the battery compartment area is missing on my D3 (using Mrs DSL's car as a comparison). Anyone else had this and is it a major issue or "leave til next service" to get fixed job???
Missing on mine:

It'll keep your battery nice & hot, so you best get it fixed. How long has it been like that?

You might want to try have your dealer replace the Battery too, cos it can't be too happy after all that.

Is that heat shield for the Battery or for that air-con line?
I'm just going to double check, but I'm sure my 07MY TDV6 has no shield here either...Dr. Ian Malcolm:

Transgenic tomato anyone?

Don't know what specifically the shield is protecting but "pipes and gubbins" look the same to me in both cars. Just one with shield, one without.

My 05 does have a shield. Maybe they've stopped fitting them on the newer builds?IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!
Mine is a March 2006 car and it doesn't have this heat shield.Matt

not got one - but my '06 did both HSE's, I think it's for the aircon pipework mainly as there isn't a heatshield on the other side, although the '07 does have pipe insulation that the '06 didn't.... so many choices
