Mid console removal
Hi guys,
Does anybody now how to remove the trimm from arround the gear lever? (automatic)
If possible, only the aluminium coloured bit.
And does anybody know if there is room enough under there to put some small switches, i don't have a terrain responce system, so there should be nothing under there i think.
Thanx again, Ruud Happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to see them come true.
Yep, still bits in progress, but we'll get there eventually!!

Yes you have to remove the gear knob. I believe you just have to pull (hard) upwards, just enough to not go through the roof! That's how it is on a manual, not sure about automatic but i think it's the same

This Aluminium Trim?
If so, this is just stuck on with Automotive tape around the edges.
The Original Look
To get this off, as its a complete unit, you need to remove the transmission lever, Put it in N and then a swift tug upwards will pull it off, and the reason for putting it into Neutral is that when it does come off, its all of a sudden and your stereo would get whacked if in Park.
Then you need to remove the screws under the Pen holder, and the rear of the Park Brake lever. Once thats done its a bravery bit, fingers under the top lip and tug hard.
You'll end up with this
Hope that helps

Hi guys, thanks a lot for your replies
Yes, its about the original trim.
I would like to put 4 little switches between the gear lever and HDC switch, if there is any room under the cover, i don't have a terrain response system.
On the photo's it looks like the underside of the trim isn't flat, that might give some problems.
Looks like removing the transmission lever is a bit of a challenge
I'll have a go tomorrow, if not freezing

I don't know how small your switches are but there is a little cover behind the parking break which you can get out in a second.
there might be room in that cover for some switches. If you don't want to sell your car in a couple of years with a dash like a piece of swiss cheese, this little cover should be a cheap one to replace. Or better keep it in one piece and make a small custom switch panel that fits that space. In my car, I fitted a little speaker in that space.

Hi guys,
Had a look today and it wasn't to bad taking the panel of.
Done it all for nothing though, not enough room under there.
Had a look at that little panel Berndv was talking about but, that's to small for four switches as well.
So, have to have another look for a suitable place.
There must be some space somewhere.

Could you give an indication of the size of the switches you intend to mount.
Cheers,
Bernd

Put them up on the panel above the windscreen where the interior lights are for driver and passenger...A few members have done this.

Hi Jason,
Thanks for your reply.
Did think about that, but running the wire along the wind screen will give a problem i think, because of the airbag.
I wonder how they've done that.
Do you know how much room is behind that roof panel?
I will have a look tomorrow.
How does that panel comes of anyway?

Loads of room for wires behind the A-pillar trim by the side of the airbag. Pop off the 'airbag' plastic logo and remove the torx screw underneath and have a look under the trim.

Agree, lots of room under there, and enough wiring going up the A Pillar. A few more following the same route won't harm.
Hiding the wires is a doddle up there, you need to remove the sunvisor and mounts, and the grab handle, then the corner of the headlinging can be manipulated/lowered enough to do what you might want to do.
