Message center display symbol? |
|
Hello: I have an '05 LR3 SE with HD option. Do not have nav. Recently, have noted a symbol appear on the message center. The symbol is an italic letter "i" followed by a solid arrowhead or triangle pointing to the right. This only appears when shifter is moved to M/S and then only after using it in the manual mode (eg selecting a gear). May occur with or without special programs being active. It goes away when shifter reverts to sport and also to auto mode.
This symbol looks like a reminder that a fault has been triggered but, if I scroll through the display by pushing on the "i" button to the left of the steering wheel, no faults come up. Perhaps it has been there all along and is only indicatng that there is information available but that seems out of context for Rover.
Is this a normal symbol? I do not recall seeing it in the past. Searching the owner's manual has been fruitless.
Does it mean a fault has been triggered? If so, I cannot seem to find it.
Advise appreciated.

If you are in sport mode, the i doesn't appear (AFAIK remember!) but if you then command shift, the i does - basically telling you to look at the display with the gear number on. Mark.

Might be wrong but if you press the i button on the end of the indicator stalk it will cycle thru the display to show a fault or information Don’t worry it is supposed to sound like that...honest

Ohhhh no he isn't
The i> symbol simply shows that an information message is available to be displayed if you have the message centre on the correct (i.e. empty) screen (which you can cycle to using the "i" button).
It will show either an information message (as seen in command-shift mode) or a warning/fault message.
Most of us have the message centre set to show the range or fuel consumption, but if you cycle through the screens and leave it on the blank screen (or the clock in a MY07), then I think the message will just be displayed all the time and you won't get the i> symbol 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Message center display symbol? |

Many thanks. The local dealer tested two other LR3's; both message centers acted just as mine did.
I am just recovering ($$$) from a rear differential replacement ; this failure had also prompted the same icon so, as you can perhaps imagine, I am wary of its reappearance. This one appears refreshingly benign.
An excellent forum.
All's well that ends well.
Thanks again.
