Mercedes Marco Polo
Has anyone had any experience of the Mercedes Marco Polo camper I've been thinking of a camper for years and these look like a great alternative to the VW, warranty is due on the D4 so now might be a good time to change

I looked at one a few years back when I thought about changing my VW California. I was offered it for the weekend but didnt drive it in the end. There were a couple of key issues for me:
1) Too glitzy for an camper or someone with dogs
2) The salesman demoed the rear seat and it broke
3) Upper bed is a lot smaller than the VW's and weight capacity looked to be less (160kg). Slight problem when you're 1.93m and built like a BSH.
4) The camping chairs pack away nicely within the tailgate within the VW. The MP stores them within the boot space
5) The upper bed stays up on struts whilst the MP seemed to be an afterthought and required straps.
On the plus side I prefered the look of the MP over the standard VW. So I gave mine the classic Sportline attire to spruce it up.

No experience with campers.
However lots of van based experience.
The Vito is a nice drive, however not as well built as the transporter.
Mine arrived wrong build spec and littered with issues. Only kept it six weeks. Long enough for Mercedes to ruin more stuff and make more issues trying to get it closer to spec!
The t6 and 6.1 are much nicer to drive.
Buy a VW is my suggestion! Discovery commercial tdv6 auto 2013
Volkswagen t6 lwb Kombi dsg 4motion 2018
Volkswagen t5.1 lwb single cab tipper 2013
Discovery commercial sdv6 auto 2014 gone and not really missed.
Range Rover Tdv8 gone
Freelander 2 I6 very sadly gone
VW t5 Dsg gone and missed

Thanks for the replies looks really nice in white.
I borrowed a T6 conversion last year which was good but the MP seems more car like to drive and I must admit the swish dashboard and fancy kitchen have swayed me towards the Mercedes and they are also a little cheaper that a California.
See what you mean about the top bed not the best design just on straps.

The merc will be cheaper but the residual values of the Transporters are stronger, the California’s at four year old are still pulling just £4-5k Under original sale valueIf it ain't broke... Take it apart anyway, how else you gonna find out how it works

Bought the Marco Polo and already been away twice in it.
Not as comfortable or powerful as the D4 but opens up a load of new adventures.
Drive to me seems smoother than the T6.1 I hired but don't think there's much difference between the 2 campers overall.
I will put a post on to sell my IID tool and others bits and bibs.

I am more than happy with it and use as my daily driver as well, another plus it's more economical than the D4!!!
It's a money pit at the moment though having to buy all the little extras like insulated screen cover, pop top roof cover and night heater but will be worth it to use all year around if we wish.
