Massive oil leak!
Gents,
Came out this morning and started my Discovery, got out to close the gates and noticed a monumental oil leak! The oil was out from under the engine around the plate covering the sump, by the time I went in to get a basin to collect the oil around 6L had run out over my drive.
I assume that the sump bung came loose?? Any ideas??
Land rover have came and recovered the car but as of yet I have not heard from them as to what's wrong
Thanks in advance for any help.
Stuart.

Would expect them to have sucked out oil rather than drain via plug.
If plug has been working loose i would expect it to have dripped for a wile too
interested to know what they findCheers Ian

I'd be surprised if it was the sump plug, but you never know.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Funny I thought they would pump the oil out too, but I'm hoping they done it via the plug and did not replace it with a brand new one as the warranty ended on 31st January!!
If it turns out to be some sort of failure i wouldn't let 3 days out of warranty worry me
I am assuming it was serviced by a main dealer ?Cheers Ian

Yeah all work has been carried out by main LR dealer who I bought the car from. Hopefully then if it's some sort of failure they will stand over it for the sake of 3 days??

I take you've put sand down and NOT just tried to wash it away in to the drains.....big fine if you have given that amount of oil

Oil leak update
After two days investigation it turned out to be crankshaft oil seal failure.

Sounds very plausible (and I think a few of us had it in mind) so I hope it gets fixed sharpish.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
