Manual Gear Box Gear Changes

Had the D3 for around 8 months now and have intended to post regarding gear changes on a manual box for some time but never got around to doing so.
I changed to the D3 from a FL2 manual whose gear change was as light as a saloon car change. The question is do all D3 manuals have heavy gear changes (particularly between 1st and second)? I do find double declutching helps considerably but not expect that to be necessary.

Thanks! Thought as much but justy occasionally I get caught out. I have to admit to having enjoyed the snow today and I did find that with the delayed response in GGS the gear changes were much better.

Always been like that. MY05 pre updated engine mapping would handily ( Shocked ) drop the revs between 1st and 2nd.

I think the effect you notice is due to the high torque (needed for the weight of the D3) in first a the subsequent lowering of immediately available torque in 2nd.

Its not as bad as it used to be but there's certainly a bit of a trick to change smoothly from 1st to 2nd.

I, likewise, have had NO problems with the manual gearbox. I suspect that it is due to your driving style. Unlike, with the auto, you have to learn to drive the box.

Best Wishes,

I occasionally have this problem and I thought that I might be getting the symptoms of the clutch/dual mass flywheel problems that have been spoken of in earlier threads.

I believe action will be taken by the LR dealership "if the customer complains of notchiness or grinding when changing gear". From memory that's what it says in the TSB.

Worth a search and check.
