Manual Box Transmission Fault
Hi,
If this has been covered I am sorry, I have looked but couldnt find anything.
I have just bought a 2005 Manual D3 and it comes with a free Transmission fault, in fairness I knew this when I bought it. The previous owner is saying that it seems to have come since he had a brake light blow. Now I know that the brake light switch can throw a load of faults up and I am going to swap this regardless, but I wondered if anyone can offer any other advice as most of the posts I have found relate to the Auto version.
I dont know if it is related, but the gear selection is very sloppy and I am going to have a look tomorrow as I have read that the ball and socket on the gear stick can degrade and also look at the linkages.
From what the prvious owner said i thought there was a suspension fault, my wife has a RRS 06, so I have swapped the suspension compressor before and had budgeted on throwing a new one in the Disco, so I dont mind if I have to throw a few parts at it to sort it out, but am hoping theyre ones I can do myself.
Thanks in advance.
Paul

Hi, Thanks for that, but I dont think thats the issue as I have the gear numbers and R coming on screen, the mirrors dip on R etc, so think thats all good.
I struggle to get the right gear physically which |I think is down to the linkages and or ball and socket on gear stick. I dont know if this would throw up a transmission fault though?!?
Cheers

Right, just an update. I ahve replaced the detent clip and this has improved the gear selection i.e it is now much easier to get to third or fourth from fifth etc.
However, the gear stick is still very sloppy when in gear. I am thinking it may need new linkages.
I was also hoping this may have removed the transmission fault, but it hasn't. I have also tried a new brake switch and that didnt do it. The battery was swapped less than a year ago apparently (in fairness it does look like new).

What is the fault you are getting? Probably time to get the fault codes read with a suitable tool.Richard
