Mantec tray bent

On Sunday afternoon I had a little off-road fun for an hour or so and managed to smack the front on the ground rather hard - enough to bend the mantec tray. I suppose I was lucky that the airbags didn't go off - it was quite a smack. My fault for driving too fast Smile . I was driving on a motorcross track that was very bumpy.
Anyway, any ideas how I can straighten the mantec tray? I could leave it, but it is noticeably bent as the rhs that should be normally touching the painted section of the bumper now has a 1cm gap, yet the lhs is fine.

Use a press or a jack to put it under more control over what you do.

Matt, thee only way you will straighten that is to take it off and bring it to an engineering shop that has a press, because it is alluminum it will need to be pressed past the straight point so that it springs back to straight.

I have a LR one with a dent in, and belive me a sledge hammer full force on to it makes no impression at all.
yo will need severall tonnes of pressure to move.

Thin of it this way, a D3 (2.7tonnes) falling say .5 of a meter on to somthing the size of your fist, think of the forces at work here, i recon a 20 or 30 tonne press should do it.

Isn't that what the plate is for... to take the brunt of the knock and protect the D3 ??

Shows you made the right decision to buy and fit one mate... and your plastic bit is still pristine for when you come to sell / pex her for a new one. Thumbs Up

Leave it and wear it proudly.

Very true Simon - I'm glad I've got one. But then if I didn't I probably would of been taking a little more care over the bumps.
I'll check out the tray next weekend (away all week) to make sure it isn't putting undue pressure on the wrong parts of the front bumper. It sounds like I'll have to leave it bent, but it would be nice to straighten it. I wonder if I could turn it upside down and then jack the car up with a trolley jack in the middle of the plate?

Also bending the metal back is going to weaken it slightly and you may find the fixings are under stress so they get stripped on removal or may not be lined up correctly when you put the plate back on ??

Being the pessimist here of course.
