Mantec or Raytec plate and insurance

Has anyone notified their insurance on adding the above? If so, what was the response?

Shocked why would you want to Rolling Eyes , its a bolt on part to protect the underside. If it was aftermarket Bars, winch etc etc then I would. Thumbs Up

My insurance company know of all bolt on parts.....including the underbody protection. The only thing that they were particularly bothered about was the winch.

because it's a modification and you are supposed to notify your insurance of all mods....

I think it's simply replacing a plastic part with a metal one........ Confused

Yep ...I did and the response was that if it's an approved LR accessory then it would be fine with no additional costs...non approved may be refused or incur additional premium charges Wink

As long as its not a engine Mod, non LR approved wheels, and non damaging/obtrusive to other road users or drivers you dont need to tell them.

Mantec is an approved design for the LR so you will be ok. I know insurance love bolt on's for premium hikes, but keep it OEM, and you should be ok.

Winches are the 4x4 Insurers favourite, same as Bars. However I notified mine insurance about the A Bar, all they asked was is it factory spec, original parts. They are, and was no charge Thumbs Up

When I rang my insurance company, they took the time to listen to me read out my list of fitted parts.
They asked for the make of each part and whether it was dealer fitted or not. The fact that they noted all this down and didn't just say, " oh that doesn't matter sir", must mean we should be letting them know...no?
I even informed them when I changed tyres....

I had an in depth discussion with an insurer many years ago about the fitment of the manufacturers genuine original alloy wheels. Although they were the ones that would have been fitted from the factory had i specified them when i bought the car new they were deemed a modification as it "did not leave the factory with them on" We then went into wether fitting non original replacement parts such as branded shocks, brake parts etc constituted modification to which they said no. So my genuine wheels are modifications but aftermarket non OE replacement shocks aren't?? If i were you i would declare all mods however small or insignificant, they will try to weasel out of any claims so dont give them the chance. When i insured my rebuilt V8 90, the underwriter ran out of room for all the mods so just took the most important, ie. engine, gearbox, winch, axles, brakes Very Happy

dont know how your insurers work but with mine if I wrote the vehicle off and the item was not declared then it would not be replaced (the bolt on) when the vehicle was replaced so not simply replacing a part. it works both ways, if they know about it then they have to replace it in a claim (if needed)

I informed the NFU about mine and they didn't mind but did note it. I work on the best to tell them the whole truth policy just in case........

Plus it is an identifying mark if the car were ever to be stolen Thumbs Up

I have a fleet policy. All the vehicles are modified in some way, even the van with extra lights. I have given the insurance company a list of the changes and have pictures of said items. Should any vehicle or add-ons get damaged in any way its all covered.

If you don't tell them about your winch or rack it wont get replaced when its nicked.
