Manifold changes, how many hours?
Hey all,
My D4 is booked in to a 4x4 specialist on Thursday to have the RH manifold replaced due to the common cracking issue. This is being done at no cost to myself as the dealer should have been aware before I picked up the car. The Garage quoted £239 for the part and 8 hours labour at £55 (£440) plus vat. total bill £815.00. So far so good.
I asked them to quote me for the additional work required to change the LH manifold at the same time, on the assumption that I would save a bit on the labour. They quoted me £163 for parts and an addition 10 hours labour. I assumed they had made a mistake and not deducted the hours already used to strip down for the right side, so just rang them back to clarify. They are adamant that it will take around 18 hours labour to change both Manifolds. Surely this can't be right? or is it?

They are correct. When my D4 went in to the main dealer for its first manifold I asked if there was any time saving to do the other at the same time and the answer was no, they are effectively separate jobs.
There is about a 1 hour difference in the published work time for one side compared with the other.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Did you go ahead and get it done at the same time? If there's no cost saving I guess its just the inconvenience of having the car back in the garage at a later date. I'd rather spend the money on the upcoming Timing belt change. and then deal with the LR manifold if/when it goes.

No, the other one hadn't failed at that stage so the warranty wouldn't cover it until it did.MY2022 D5 HSE D300 - with extra nice bits added

Same story I got when my left hand manifold cracked. There was no point in doing the right side until it failed.

It's nowhere near 18 hours, but there is very little crossover time between the 2 sidesMy D3 Build Thread

Just had my RH side done by Famous Four in Louth and they quoted 7.1 Hours
They agreed with other comments above that there was only c 10 mins common work if I was to have had both done.D1 3Door (White) Long gone

Thanks all, I spoke to the mechanic this morning when I dropped it off, he confirmed that it is indeed around 18 hours to do both sides. I'll leave the left side for now, and worry about it in the future as there's currently no issues with it.
