Manifestation in France tomorrow... |
|
Hello Guys,
If any of you happen to be in France tomorrow and especially in Paris around the Tour Eiffel, there'll be a manifestation in order to protest against some new restrictions in the use of byways... In short, if you try to drive down a byway and a policeman estimates that a "normal" car is unable to do so, he'll be able to fine you up to 1.500€... Around a 1.000GBP...
That manifestation will be pacific, on foot and will go from the Tour Eiffel to the Ministry of Ecology. They are the one responsibles for that piece of nonsense...
This is just a "heads up" in order to let you know that the situation of 4x4 in France might well be a bit more complicated in the coming time...

time to recall the canard of a 2CV being designed to travel across a field with a basker of eggs on the passenger seat by a tall hat wearing paysan and for hat and eggs to be unbroken.... Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

What !! So if your vehicle is more capable of driving a road that another is not... the French government will fine you ???
So essentially the French must all purchase crappy Renaults so that everyone will be on a level playing ground for ALL road types ! Oh and Renault is owned by the French Gov is it not ???

Well, you are right on one first point and wrong on the second... Renault is no longer stated owned... They even own Nissan nowadays !
As for the rest, if th police thins that the byway is impassable by a "normal car" which is defined as a car "without any off-road capabilities", then he can fine you...

This could be a real can of worms. It really smacks of discrimination against certain drivers, who may need to drive 4x4's for reasons other than leisure use. What about the farmer who has to drive a 4x4, and makes a wrong turn onto a "byway", he will get prosecuted, where another person driving a 2wd car would not.
This is blatant discrimination, and should be challenged - good luck.
And another thing, who is going to train the police on the capabilities of every car on the road? how will they judge?

Back from the manifestation... |
|
Well we were about 2000 people in Paris, the same number in Lyon and about 700 in Toulouse...
Not too shabby !
As for the rest, the "directive" was inspired to the ministre (A female... ) by her Chieff Of Staff... It seems that this one was a crypto-green...
We'll se what comes out of all this...
