My wife and I have just completed the Macmillan 4x4 Challenge and came 5th out of 90!
Its our 3rd year and the D4 always turns a few heads and we obviously get called all the posh names etc but I honestly couldn't imagine doing the event in any other car. 4 days endurance navigation on and off road and we sleep in the back on a full double mattress - perfection!

Well done, a great result !
I think your D4 looks great, and what's wrong with using one for it's intended purpose, i.e. adventure, not sleeping in, though there are not many you can get a double mattress in the back of !!

This sounds just great! Have you specially ordered the mattress?

Did it twice in my Series 2a, its a fantastic experience. Where did you get to this year?
It was great, we did about 800 miles through Shropshire, Staffs, Warwickshire, Leicestershire (We had access to Bruntingthorpe proving ground which was fascinating!) then across into the Welsh mountains and forests.
The mattress just came from a local bed shop, I gave them the width of the car and I think they were relieved to get rid of such an odd sized mattress!
The "pods" in the boot make great bedside tables with drinks holders and everything!

I think I might enter again next year. I gave up because I exhausted all my sponsorship potential, but have some new targets now, so probably worth a stab.

Clothes are in bags on the bed, we just change into PJs then chuck our bags on the front seats while we sleep.
Camping chairs, stove, food and recovery/maintenance gear is all in the roof bag or strapped to the rack.
Works really well and no issues with weather/setting up/dismantling tents - we set the timed climate for half an hour before we climb out of the sleeping bag - Lovely! If you aren't living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space!!
