Lube oil for TDV6
Sorry if this is repeating an earlier thread.
Landrover recommend a 5/30 that meets A3/B3. Castrol recommend firstly 0/30 Edge or secondly 5/30 Magnatec - but 0/30 is not LR's recommendation and Magnatec is not a diesel oil. There is also an Edge 5/30 which is A3/B3 but advertised as for VW diesel long service intervals. This looks like the best stuff but seriously expensive from Halfords. Reason I ask is that I now use an LR specislist rather than a dealer but I am thinking of supplying my own oil as I like to know whats in the sump. Any other brand that is cheaper than the £45 Halfords charge for 4 litres of 5/30 edge diesel?
Confused - i should be!

Isn't it??? Ran my D2 exclusively on it for 132,000 miles without mishap or burning oil etc -thought it met both specs.... was I wrong? Cheers

Mmm checking the Halfords site (type in your reg and it should id both your car and suitable oil(s)), it lists Magnatec 5W/30 for the TDV6, meets A1/B1 (thought B1 was the diesel std??)Cheers
Ran my D2 on the petrol Magnatec as well, it meet the spec, whilst the Deisel version didn't, do not know why , but it ran fine.

Interestingly Landrover now prefer to list the ford spec of WSS-M2C913-B 5w30 for 2008/09. (Although the basic spec hasn't really changed, & is essentially the same for all TDV6 models)
Castrol magnatec 5w30 A1, meets this spec & the previous spec. This is suitable for diesel. (see my previous post). & is a full synthetic.
Edge 0w30 is not recommended by Land Rover, only a 5w30

I use Shell Helix Ultra Diesel - very expensive from Shell, as it is the top grade fully synthetic diesel oil, and would cost around £36 for 4.5 ltrs.
However, you can buy it off ebay for 12 x 1 ltr bottles delivered for around £50 - so you get 2 oil changes out of it. I think this is the best oil you will get for that price.D4 SDV6 HSE
