LR4 (US) changes to use in EU
Hello!
I wait LR4 MY13 from US market and would like to use in EU. I know that US certification is different than EU but I don't know what need to change. All what I know is that Instrument cluster should be in km/h and maybe headlight (but not sure)
Of course after received car I can drive to Transport department and ask they, but Estonia market very small and I want to be prepared and buy some spare parts before.
I believe somebody already move LR4 to EU and know what need to change. Hope you can help me
Thanks!LR4 V8 5.0 HSE Lux

We do a lot of imports, mainly motorcycles, but occasionally motors/cars.
Even within the EU, each country has his own rules…
There is only a rule, that once imported or comfirmed road legal in a EU country, other EU country’s copies that “confirmation” in the case of import in another EU country..
In the Netherlands, you do not need to have km/h a dail, as long as you can translate the speed towards km/h… so a mls dail will do, since you can convert the speed in your head….
All lenses from front AND rear light units do need to have E marks… without discussion.. every one….
(But maybe US delivered LR’s do have them allready if these are buildt in Europe (i think) you never know… )
Emissions can be a “thing” so you need a type/model confirmation from your LR import company in your country…. You have to prove it is equal to a certain EU environment code… (depending on model, EU3, or higher)
Otherwise we had never big issues in The Netherlands with imported vehicles, as long we applied an respected the above mentioned subjects..(all of them)Best regards

I’m reasonably sure the tail lights exist in NAS and EU (ROW?) spec. The North American ones have side reflectors or something which doesn’t exist on the other tail lights…. I think.

Side reflectors themselves are not a problem as long as the reflectors have E markings technically
But I presume as kajzu states, us ones will have different (non EU) markings…Best regards

I consulted with those who registered US cars in Estonia, and unfortunately there is no pattern here. It looks like it all depends on the mood of the person who check car. Unfortunately, I haven't found someone who would register LR.
Well, I'll update post when will know about registration in EstoniaLR4 V8 5.0 HSE Lux

I am curious - did you get your LR3 and have you been able to register it in the EU?

My current LR3 (Discovery 3) from EU so there's no problem with it
But yesterday I received my new LR4 from US. It was successfully customs clearance in Lithuania (because in Estonia price is higher and longer waiting). So currently LR4 in local service they check all and after that I start register.
I remember that thread and will post some updates about register status.

Finally, my LR4 pass all checks, and I've got a license plate!
It was very long, almost two months. Sadly but when I bought car price for petrol was not so high. Hope prices stabilize soon.
So, in Estonia law is very strange:
– you should pass EU certification anyway (if your car from US and not was registered in Estonia before). For example, you bought US car in Germany and want to register in Estonia, you should do all tests like you bought car directly from US
– here accepting mph instrument cluster but should have km/h digital speedo.
– accepting vehicle type approval from other EU countries, or you can do yourself lot of tests like brake, exhaust, noise etc. (not regular inspection tests).
– no need to change in headlights or rear lights.
Well, I used easyst way – purchased vehicle type approval from a local company (I don't know where they got it, but it was good for transport department approval). So now I'm happy user LR4 with 5.0 petrol engine!LR4 V8 5.0 HSE Lux

Congratulations
Here petrol is now cheaper per liter than diesel (and there is a separate diesel fuel tax embedded in the annual vehicular tax so… petrol seems cheaper right now

Thanks guys!
In Estonia diesel price (1.949€) already same as petrol (1,949€ for 95 and 1.999€ for 98).
Surprising but I can do 17l/100km in city!
Anyway 5.0 should be more reliable and hope cheaper than crankshaft replacement LR4 V8 5.0 HSE Lux
